Recently bought a F10 535d that will be three years old at the end of next week. BMW warranty quotes range from £411 for Driveline and £250 excess to £977 for Comprehensive and £0 excess. I was only quoted a monthly figure for one combo and it seemed quite a bit higher than the annual cost divided by 12, I'm going to call back to confirm.

My current thinking is £596 for the comprehensive with £250 excess, it's only £88 more than the named component cover.

Any advice on the sweet spot of cover? Any hidden advantage to paying monthly I've missed?

Cheers,

It wasn’t a BMW approved used car. My 15 F11 38k miles with Inchcape for the coming year is £430 pay monthly or one off no difference.

Remember, do it monthly if under 60k miles, that way you don't get the price doubling as you go over the 60k mile mark, it just carries on.

Inchape warranty sounds expensive to be honest, also, again, if you go over the 60k mark and then want to take out the BMW warranty you will pay a hell of a lot more.

True, it wasn't an AUC, decided that the £5k difference in price covers the increaed warranty prices for quite a while.

I've got a funny feeling that loophole has been closed, seem to recall reading it somewhere.

I was still only paying about £55/mo on my '06 E91 on 122k when I cancelled last month, so I don't think it has.

Yeah, you will still get the price increase, but you don't get it doubling because you have gone over the 60k threshold.

Question re the 60K threshold, can BMW actually check vehicle mileage at a certain date from the car?

Mine is on 61k miles and the renewal has come through, quite a big difference between putting 59900 miles on the quote or 61000.

Any reason not to put 59900 and renew warranty 'just ahead of that Eurpoean road trip I did the week after renewing'?

When was the milage last registered with anyone?

BMW register it every time you go in with the data on your key, MOT or anything like that had recently?

I would not put 59900 though, maybe 58,941 or something.

Last time it was at BMW was a good few months ago for a recall, so was below 60K.

It's being MOT'd on Friday though (not at BMW)....

OP here, just signed up for comprehensive with £250 excess at £66/month, annual cost was £596. Explanation for the disparity was that you could claim this month and cancel the policy next month.

"The monthly cost will continue for ever until you decide to cancel the policy" was another unprompted statement.

You’re paying £670 a year for a warranty on a car you do only 3500 miles a year in?

Seems a lot?

I think I'd have been tempted to go Named Component tbh - fully comp seems a bit much for such low mileage
