Hi all,

I've recently bought myself a rather mint 330cd coupe, totally honest and straight, full history and just fully checked over by an independant specialist who could not find anything wrong other than that which I knew about. It's had everything done like swirl flaps, crankcase breather changed to vortex etc and now it has a nice clean bill of health, I'm looking at a remap option. It's a 6 speed manual, so the gearbox is no issue from a strength perspective.

I can see a huge variety of different power and torque figures quoted from various different mappers, but I'm also aware that the weak point is the clutch/dual mass flywheel. I'm also aware that I do not want to upgrade to a clutch that's like a switch, although a heavier duty normal clutch is fine, neither do I want to have to be changing the clutch/DMF on a regular basis, which brings me to my question.

I can see anything from about 380lb ft through to 450lb ft is perfectly doable with a map, but my concern is about destroying the clutch and DMF, so does anyone have experience of what a sensible torque limit is for the DMF to survive say at least 50k miles? From what i've heard, I'm leaning towards a max of 425 lb ft's. Is that a realistic limit, or is higher or lower more sensible?

Additionally, I've seen some comments about things like the rear sub frame mounts needing strengthening on E46's, or is that only on more extreme tuned ones?

The car is a daily driver and will remain as such, so it's got to stay reliable, I'd just like more grunt and MPG, although I have no issues spending a reasonable amount on maintenance each year. For info, it will be getting an oil and filter change every 10k max and will get anything done it needs.

Any input much appreciated.

These were 204bhp and 300ft/lbs from the factory. The figures above would require much more than a simple remap. Just get one done by a reputable company and you'll have 250bhp and about 380ft/lbs. That's sufficient. Keep some money back for a new clutch and flywheel as they're bound to need doing post-remap. Especially if they've not been done before. I speak from experience! smile

A new Luk clutch and flywheel should be fine for just a remap on an 330cd. A new prop centre bearing and prop coupling would be wise too. A 535d prop coupling is a good upgrade.

Ok, thanks for the info all, especially the tips about the centre prop bearing and Luk items.
