I purchased K+DCAN cables and installed all the software etc. to enable me to read codes on the car a while back and having fired it up today to read some codes none of it seems to work after a recent update of the virtual machine software.

Is there an easier and faster way to read codes that doesn't involve mucking about with virtual machines and clunky old software that was designed for windows XP? Seems to be a really outdated and complicated method to pull codes out of the car.

Any experiences or recommendations will be gladly appreciated.

Creator C310+.

Allowed me to read (and clear) fault codes on my E91 330, E85 Z4 and E46 330Ci.

Plug and play.

After having rubbish experiences with so called BMW fault code readers I have bought an Autel one for £360 ... dear but sorts all the stuff I had issues with trying to do it with software on my laptop written in German !

No faults I am bothered with but at least I don't have the same issues any more. Not too sure re the £100 a year for updates though !

Are you emulating XP and using virtual machines to run the software? I did have it running initially on windows 10, it just strikes me as rather convoluted way to access software that enables you to read codes. Are there version out there that can run directly inside windows 10?

This will work from XP through to Windows 10: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12...

I've got it running (along with VCDS) on my dedicated coding laptop (Acer Aspire One running XP), plus it fine on my main Windows 10 laptop.

Thanks. Is this software similar to inpa etc? For example, can you read codes and do basic coding?

Yeah, the folders contain an easy setup version of "BMW Standard Tools", so INPA, NCSExpert & Winkfp yes

Unlike the old downloads, its super easy to setup for a normal person, ie a non-super BMW IT geek beardy person.
