Might be getting a new BMW with a Tech Pack that includes the Display key. Have BMW sorted out the security issues with the keyless entry etc?
Car would be kept on drive at night.

Have one for my 7 series and also the wife's i8. No issues, just treat like a normal smart key and protect when not in use. I have a faraday tin (same sort of size as a biscuit tin) that we just stick all the keys in now. They're crap by the way! And a pita to carry around. App works better although I don't even use that nowadays.

It's the other things on the tech pack we like. (Head up display, loud speaker upgrade, BMW Driver recorder, Park Assist Plus)

About april 2018 they introduced a motion detector into the keys which turns them off after 2 minutes of inactivity.

Therefore without motion relay attack is not possible. Mercedes have done something similar.

The keys can be replaced with the updated ones at a large charge

There is an article in What Car about a survey they did of how long it took to open & steal keyless cars using a scanner. The BMW X6 they used with a normal key from last year took 1 minute. They couldn’t get in or start the car that used a display key and as said above, BMW have confirmed that all keys now can’t be ‘scanned’ after 2 minutes of closing if they are not moved

Just put it in a faraday pouch and stick it in a drawer, there are no benefits unless you have the self park and need to use that, never use mine.
