New BMW 125d owner (2013)
Discussion
Hi
i've just bought a 2013 125d m sport auto with all the bells and whistles such as leather, harmon kardon heated seats etc.
Wow, what a car. Drives like a dream and the brakes are pin sharp.
Just a couple of questions I have: I generally drive short distances during the week to and from work (4 miles each way), if I give the car a longer run once a fortnight should this prevent any potential dpf issues?
also it has a full bmw service history, would you recommend keeping this up or going independent?
also does anyone know of any ways of updating the sat nav as i don't think it's been done.
thanks

Yes, I would - 4 miles each way consitently is not good for a modern Diesel. By 4 miles the engine will barely be up to operating temperature, especially in the colder months. I'd be inclined to give it a good run weekly to prevent DPF and other issues.I generally drive short distances during the week to and from work (4 miles each way), if I give the car a longer run once a fortnight should this prevent any potential dpf issues?
A petrol would have been more suitable for your commute.

Or ..................https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/electric-bi...
These engines have set parametrs that need to be met before a DPF regen will happen, and there are 2 forms of regen - continuous and periodic. The criteria for a periodic regen are as follows:
- coolant temperature min 75C
- fuel above reserve
- no specific error codes (480A or 481A)
- no fault codes due to air intake or emissions system
- road speed above 60kmh (38mph) - engine speed is not mentioned
The continuous regen is a slow burn.

So you have the next generation of the 123d I had for over 6 years.
A "longer run" once a fortnight might work - it just depends how long the run is!
I never had an issue with the dpf on mine, but I was doing 14K miles a year and my commute was about 13 miles each way.
As for service history, I bought a 5 year Service Pack for my car which dealt with that.
It probably depends on your future plans.
If you are keeping it long-term I'd go for an Independent BMW Specialist, but if you are expecting to sell soon a main agent may be a better plan.
Sorry I can't help with the Sat-Nav - I still use my Garmin!

Go to Information on the sat nav system, and find out what type of nav you have & what version the maps are. Download the newest version of the maps (I recommend GPSPower for this, free registration) and then all you may need is a FSC (Freischaltcodierung = Activation Code) and you're good. There are various ways of getting that FSC, people on Ebay do them, but I may be able to help you - it depends on a few things.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
