Hi All

I have a 2007 E83 X3 3.0SD MSport I'm considering putting some winter tyres on and am struggling to find any.

Does anyone here have any recommendations? The wheels are different sizes front and rear. Just a bit concerned as I've heard there can be compatibility issues with xdrive?

In my opinion, look for a set of standard "non-staggered" 17" alloys, much easier, and more choice then. Then swap them over.

I run winters all year round on my 318d, but having a square set-up makes it easier, and I run unfashionable 16" alloys

Have a look at the different tyre sizes listed on your door pillar sticker (the one with tyre pressures) and pick a square set-up from that (i.e. same front & rear). Then buy a cheap set of wheels from Ebay to suit, and add your winter tyres of choice. Or buy a complete set of wheels & tyres from Ebay. There is nothing stopping you from putting different size wheels & tyres on there from what you currently have as long as you stick to the recommended sizes all round.
This is from the F25 (newer gen X3) but the principle stays the same.

Square sets are the ones that don't have a triangle or circle next to them??

Ironically, yes! Triangles are the fronts, circles are the rear.

See if you can source your tyres from either Camskill or Tyreleader; they generally have the best prices, you just need to get them fitted.

You should be able to find winter tyres in the sizes you need, easy enough. Other usual suspects are MyTyres and Blackcircles

As already mentioned, it can be worth while souring a set of normal 17 or 18” alloys (as long as they fit over your brakes), having a set of alloys for winter tyres makes life a lot easier (if you’re able to store them that is)

I’ve just refurbed a set of 17” alloys for my E39 touring in readiness for their winter tyres. I’ve gone for a straight set of alloys (17x8 all round) and 235/45/17 tyres all round too

BM Autosport has a good selection of used alloys, some often with winter tyres already fitted - I've bought from them in the past.

Mr Winter Wheels is also great for new sets of TUV rated alloys - I ordered a set for my car from them on Friday, they arrived first thing on Monday morning.

I don't know if there is a forum for X3 owners, but I got a great deal on some wheels with winters for my Z4 on a dedicated forum.

I run a square set up for winter on my X3 335D. Got a set of pirelli sottozero and alloys 18in (with TPMS) on ebay from Germany.
