Hi,

I am in the market to buy a car. We want a SUV and really like the BMW X4. I mainly drive the car a few miles in the morning an evening and a 30 mile round trip most days to and from work. This traffic is stop start for almost half of it. I really like the X4, but they are only diesel. Is this a sensible choice, due to DPF issues? We would use the car maybe 1 or twice a month on the motorway for an hour each way.

Also thinking of a newer X1 in petrol but I like the X4 alot more?

I just don't want to run in to expensive DPF bills. It also concerns me buying second hand as you have no idea how the car was used by previous owner.

any advice would be appreicated.

We 've got a 66 plate X4 30d.

Mrs400 users it for work circa 11 miles each way up and down dale.

Averaging 38 to the gallon.

weekends we always go out somewhere which involves a duel carriageway of sone description.

And recently she's buggared off to her mother's 150 miles each way.

we went Norfolk the other week and I kicked the arse out of it.

Mrs400 loves it and I'm going to struggle to get her out of it in 18 months when we normally change cars.

As we went to look at a 340i but because it wasn't 4 wheel drive she said no.

But I'm not a fan of the new shape so it'll either be an X5 or an SQ3 next.

Same problem here - my wife loves her 2016 X4 30d and (touch wood) it’s been fine despite her 5 mile commute with loads of stop/start, but it is also used for longer journeys on weekends.

It’s such a good all rounder my M3 has become a driveway ornament and I have to admit it’s pretty good fun (for a diesel).

Looking at the new X4 M40i but worried my M3 won’t then move off the drive!

I always turn stop/start off in traffic i know it defeats the object of it but i get concerned that the started motor replacement bill is not going to be as expensive as the bill for the bit of extra fuel im using.

Ours has just had the 1st brake fluid change done which is abit of a ripoff.

1st one after 3 years then every 2 years after that...

Is it different fluid or something.

At the moment BMW incentivising the APR rate to 2.9 percent.

Keen on the X3 but it's outside looks are just a little dull.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I should have said we are buying second hand and I also concerned I am going to loose money in a few years due to it being diesel. Most of me thinks buy the X4 as its the car I like the most or be sensible and buy the petrol X1

Ours was/is second hand, and its a car they all lose money.

I had an E60 530d before the X4 and i paid 10 grand in cash for it, had ot for best part of 14 months and traded it against the X4 and they give me £4800 against it.

The X4 was £26000.

Not just the starter motor - imagine the oil baking in the hot turbo/s bearings when the engine stops......
