back light confusion plus ABS issue
Discussion
Hi all, I noticed that my tail light 2007 e92 (number 2 in the handbook page 120) isn't working, after much head scratching wondering where the bulb was for it in the light cluster, I realised that perhaps its built into the light unit as it says LED in the hand book. Have I worked that out right, so if that's correct I'd need to change the whole unit? Just as a consequence of me messing around back there taking bulbs out and jiggling around, I noticed my ABS warning light turned off after a warning light came on for a bulb, I then corrected the bulb and ABS warning light has still stayed off. Its been on for weeks constantly and has been diagnosed by a specialist that the pump has gone, they gradually degrade apparently hence why for months its been coming on and off intermittently. But like I said for the past month or so its came on permanently, on start up and staying on, until I been playing around today. I don't suppose there are electrical issues that can confuse the system? (before I spend unnecessary money on a new pump. Just while I'm here, I've researched the pumps need to be coded, (unless I were to get my own refurbished I believe) is that correct? if so can any mechanic do this or does it need BMW equipment to do it? Thanks
ok, scrap the possible electrical issue, ABS light is back on :-( I just thought it weird that it stopped when messing with other electrics as normally when you have more than one thing wrong, the lights seem to lake it in turns on the display but that never happened. Oh well I was hoping really
Send your pump to ecutesting, they’ll turn it around quickly, and then guarantee the work too. many, many people on here have used them over the years. I’ve used them myself.

As far as the rear lights go, the pre-facelift e92 lights have an annoying tendency for the bulb holders to expand over time. Take the light out, then use a set of needle-nose pliers to crimp the metal connectors (a bit). No more spurious connections. (Do it for all bulbs while you’re there).

looks like a great price, but I cant have my car off the road for days maybe a week including postage times, I though about that hence the coding issue of a second hand one or another that's already been rebuilt, is it something a general mechanic can do, that's if it needs doing, Ive read that it does? regarding the lights, as explained, its the LED in the main unit that appears to have gone, I was wondering if I was correct? not sure crimping the other bulbs would make that work would it?https://www.ecutesting.com/

Sorry for the slow reply, work got in the way a bit...With respect to the light unit, it’s a good few years now since I had the e92, so I don’t specifically remember the light unit in terms of which one you mean. I think you’re right though, and a 2h unit would be the best bet.
As far as the pump goes, from what you’re saying, I think you’re right again in that buying a 2h one might be a better solution for you - however,
when you buy a 2h one, & fit it, you need the software to ‘bleed’ the system, (ask me how I know - most cautious drive ever!) and so getting a local specialist to fit & code it, might be the best solution, if not the cheapest.
Or search ebay for a copy of NCS/Inpa and code it yourself. The cable/dvd will be around £30 or so. There’s lots of guides out there on ‘how to’. That would let you buy the 2h one & diy it.
The biggest issue with coding a 2h one in, is how do you know it’s ‘good’? Only way I can see to work around that is to buy one as a temporary measure, fit it & send the original off for repair by ecu... then remove & sell on once your original is back. Not a good solution by any means though.
I’ve got the software, etc but you’re nowhere near me. There might be someone reading this who is local to you who might do the coding for beer money?
Thanks so much for your input, Id go for a recon one, provided I could get it coded. I really cant be without my car so options are limited I think, so to do this I need a specialist that would have the data? Possibly the easiest option. I'm not trying to skimp on this I'm happy to spend what ever really but having just spent 500 quid on new water pump 300 quid on track rod and ends and also tyres, I'm trying to keep costs down a bit as I'm determined to pop my car up to PMP this month to have recon turbos fitted and a couple of extra mods done while he is there,(uprated inlet pipes and he said he'd decat my existing downpipes for me too) If he can squeeze it all in, so silly ABS pump can wait if its going to cost lol. Any way now I have that to go on I got time to think about it. I'll hold on to that link you sent, cheers for that. Redish motorsport is just down the road from me so I'll prob go there. Thanks for that info
