Hi,

I've got a leak in the rear passenger door of my 5 series. The rain is coming in the seal at the bottom of the door, and trickling into the foot well.

Anyone know if this would be covered by the comprehensive warranty? The car is over 100k miles but the warranty was taken out before.

Any idea how difficult a job it might be, cause I have an excess on the policy, so might it not be much more to get it sorted by a trusted indy?

Thoughts?

Riggie

Weatherstrips and seals are specifically excluded in the warranty, so they may well refuse to cover it.

I had a water leak in the foot well on my 3 series quite a few years ago, the water actually was coming over the door seal in to the foot well. After a bit of investigation (water poured on the window glass of the door, I watched where it was coming out) I found out that it was because the membrane behind the door card had come unstuck and water was taking an alternate route to the designed one and going in front of the door seal and not behind it.....

I’ve just had the same thing last week. Quite an easy job to do. Remove the door card, one screw behind pull handle then door card pulls off on clips. Found the foam membrane had come away at the bottom corner. The sealant wasn’t sealing at that corner. I got some black sealant and resealed it, dried out the carpet and up to now seems ok.
On a side note I’m getting Fed up with water issues with this car lately, had a headlight with bad condensation in it, sorted that last month then water in the footwell last week now today get a phone call saying car has pinged up with low coolant so now wondering what this next issue is if I have a leak or something! Sometimes wonder why I bother with a bmw! As you can probably tell pretty pi##ed with this car the lately!

Mr Yogi, I had water in my nearside rear foot well and it turned out to be coming in round the plug in the bulkhead for the LHD steering column. The drain on the cover in the engine compartment was blocked and water built up and found it's way round the plug. It's a common problem solved by opening up the drain hole. I found really helpful instructions on one of the 5 series forums but can't remember which one!
