Evening gents,

Decided to foray back into BMW ownership recently with a lovely E46 320ci. Maybe regrettedly also decided to purchase a 2013 63 335D X drive (1 owner car done 66k with full BMW dealer history) for Mrs n_const. Her first drive into work this morning and an EML popped up or in her words " a light that looks like a sharp watering can" laughrolleyes Got it to a friends workshop this afternoon so they could code read it, the error code is 290900 Air mass flow sensor but then we also noticed a small pipe leaking coolant. I am going to assume (possibly wrongly until we look at it further) that it is leaking from the EGR cooler.

Where is the best place to start ? I have googled it and people are saying BMW did a recall, I have already called my local dealership and no recall outstanding !

I've read about some of the recalled cars' EGR coolers failing again. Ring BMW customer services (not your local dealer) and take it from there. It's a fire risk (hence the original recall) and they should react accordingly. They may/may not tell you where the recall was carried out, but it's irrelevant to you - just get on to them ASAP & take their advice.

Consumer rights aside, if it's a previous recall that has now failed again, BMW has a duty of care to repair it again. Hopefully properly this next time
If it's anything else, & it was a dealer sale, hopefully they have some comeback. You don't with a private sale, unfortunately, despite the common misconception you have.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It was a trade sale , came in as a part exchange against a new Honda. I have spoke to customer service and local BMW dealer , the egr cooler has been replaced under a recall last year. Think I’ve sorted the coolant leak with a replacement hose from Bm, the jubilee clip has been tightened too much which has caused the pipe to split.

I didn't mean you, I meant the common misconception that a purchaser has almost as many consumer rights when buying privately as a customer does from a dealer. Fundamentally, the Consumer Rights Act doesn't apply to private sales.
