My sons 20015 e92 320i has radio interference when the HRS is on,only doe's it when the engine is running, fine with just the ignition turned on.? No visible element damage and connections checked, auto electrician says common fault, needs a new screen.! It's sun protection so just shy of £400.! Any suggestions as winter is approaching and my "don't turn it on then" didn't go down well...scratchchin

Firstly, there will be a break somewhere, need to look closer.

Secondly, make sure he has no chargers plugged in anywhere, many of these cause radio interference, when you turn the rear screen on it can make it worse.
I always buy Belkin chargers, one of the only ones that don't ruin reception.

Thirdly, surely he only has the rear screen on for a couple of minutes anyway, once it is clear it is clear.

Hard wired dash cams are one of the worst for interference, and people often forget they are in there as they are out of sight.

The radio reception on my E91 was pretty poor most of the time.

From what I read I believe there is an antenna amplifier inside the spoiler at the top of the screen that can cause problems, but I sold the car before I got round to investigating.

But I'd imagine an E92 would have the same fitting somewhere.

I experienced this on a 2005 Jaguar XJ6 only.
The radio aerial was in that piece of glass.

Not sure if this applies to the E92, but in the E39 interference when the heated rear screen is on is either the diversity amp or the rear screen itself. As the amp is way easier and cheaper to replace, that's the first thing to check.

I had this on my E91 most likely the diversity module you'll know when the central locking packs up as well!!

I did a lot of googling on this a few years ago, in relation to my E91. As well as the diversity amp, another possibility is slight corrosion on the terminals at the rear screen. A clean up and dose of contact cleaner was the suggestion.
