Hello fellow bheads.
I know this has been asked million times.
Ive been desperate to find a cheap BMW to insure as my first car. I've found a e36 for 2.2k/year, however i was hoping you guys would have an idea of any other options? I am 17, license for a month, car will be kept in on the street. Pretty mediocre area in the city not much car thefts if any at all. 25+ yr experienced named driver. In uk since '16 if that changes anything.
BMW's run in the family, that's the reason I am desperate to catch myself a beemer, I've looked at 1 series they are ridiculous.
Anyone knows a guy or has had contact with any bmw models that are cheap for lads like me?

Thanks in advance!

Not what you ll want to hear, but get a years no claims behind you then start looking.

Insurance is a mind field, how ever 2.2k is nt "overly" bad considering some of the quotes that get banded about on here.

Alot of the time newer cars are cheaper to insure than older ones, so you may find an E46 is cheaper to insure.

I would try and stick to small engines, so 316, 318 or 320 to keep costs down. E46 318i probably a good route to look down, should be cheap enough to buy, and the 4 cyclinder probably makes it cheaper to insure.

Unfortunately BMWs will always be more expensive to insure as they are a premium brand.

Wasn't sure about this bit:

25+ yr experienced named driver

Is it worth mentioning to a broker that you have that much driving experience and see if they can advise further? I assume it was all abroad and as a named driver you didn't get any NCB, but they may have not factored in that experience to their costs.

Would it be an option to put the car on a classic car policy?

The named driver is my mum shes been driving longer than 25 years, I thought mentioning that would give some help to the topic.

I was looking into CCPolicy, however i rang around and they still hovered over 4-5k range.
Ive had luck with the e36s some of them come back to me as 2-2.5k insurance. I think thats the lowest possible at this point.
