Hi

Just after getting my MPPSK fitted, what happens!! the papers this weekend have articles on Noise cameras, basically the same principle as speed cameras only this time it depends on how loud your exhaust is! Same principle will apply, 3 points on your license and a fine!

Now i know it is chiefly aimed at boy racers , over loud exhausts and motor bikes, but i just wondered whether the MPPSK would trigger one if i was in Sport or Sport+ mode, giving it some beans! if so, as it is a BMW stock product, it is legal!

Anybody aware of these proposed new detectors, and if so, do you reckon the MPPSK would go undetected in sport mode? eeerrrmm!!

What's the max dB that the exhaust will create and what will the cameras be set to?

If you're just driving past on ready throttle then you'll be fine.

If you're flooring it past the sensor then who knows?

Exactly, when you know where they are, you just drop it into comfort, and just go past on a lazy throttle.

The problem arises (just like speed cameras), is knowing where they are! give it some welly in some unknown area and you
could fall foul of them, assuming that MPPSK would trigger the acoustic camera, which of course it may not!

Interesting strategy though, of all the issues on the roads like rage, speeding, dodgy maintained cars etc...they select noise!

Me thinks its all part of the nanny state, as they mentioned how noise can effect well being , mental health, stress, heart issues! etc

To measure SPL accurately they’d need ranging to be exact, so must measure ‘worst case’ on distance.

And what if two or more cars are passing?

I think this is for super loud cars that are ‘obvious’

If you have anything standard-alike you’ll be fine.

120 decibels is the limit for an exhaust, or it used to be as far as I recall, its well over 100 anyway I think,no car out the factory would be anywhere near that. I remember watching a top gear and they checked the noise of their cars and the loudest was a Ferrari which in comparison to most other cars is quite loud I'd imagine, and if I recall that was only 80ish decibels.

Genuinely thought this was made up but having checked its on the gov's website so all kosher.

Going to be interesting how they link the sound to a vehicle. We have 40ft lorries who thunder into the village from the farms around our house and as the road isn't the smoothest there clank and jangle making a real racket. Not so much engine/exhaust noise as just excessive road noise as they bounce along. Wonder if it'll catch those instances too?

But with my PH head on it's another nail in the coffin (tyre) of the motorist, it's just nowhere near as enjoyable to drive as it used to be.

I love driving more than ever.

Just avoid high pop density areas... which arguably have always been a bit pants.
