I’d usually get Mahle bits for the E39 but I need to get a new water pump for the N54 335i so will get one of those from BMW & was wondering if it was worth getting a thermostat from them at the same time? A friend is going to see what price she can get tomorrow as she works at the dealers. The Mahle thermostat is £50 from BMWMotormec so I’ll see how much more the BMW one is (it may even be the same part!).

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the old thermostat but it seems silly not to replace it with the pump.

IIRC Mahle and / or Wahler are OEM anyways

Worth checking part numbers.

I bought an N52 stat from GSF and it was Mahle with the BMW identification marks ground off. I got a Pierburg pump from eBay for less than half the price quoted by my BMW dealer.

Yes the review of the Mahle stat on eBay seems to suggest it had the BMW logo ground off so that should be ok. There are loads of others too but thats the one I’d trust.

Unfortunately there is nothing really on uk eBay for the pump ‭11519455978‬.

That a very good price for everything you need, unfortunately thats a completely different pump to the one that I just took off my N54, the part number isn’t one that listed either.

I got a new pump ordered from BMW for £345 +vat from my friend with her discount. There was only one result on eBay with the part number for mine & it was £450 odd...

you mean this one?:

It would have been even cheaper if bought last Friday...think it was a 33% off vs. the standard 20-something...

Yes that looks at lot more like it, the one on eBay is very over priced then!

Will be interesting to see if the BMW one is exactly the same as that VDO one, my old one has the rubber mounts, I think the newer design hasn’t got them, like that VDO one.

And don't forget these:

The aluminium bolts are a single use items.

VDO = Continental (Contitech) = OEM BMW

Thanks, yes I have those on my BMW order, I needed all the bits to make a new plug for the pump too as it had melted into the old pump!

I may swap the 335i E93 SE for a 335i E92 MSport in the spring so decided it was better to have a receipt from BMW for the genuine pump & stat.

The discounted stat was £65 from them, I forgot that didn’t include VAT rolleyes will likely be exactly the same as the Mahle one!

Sorry, I didn't read the title. You're correct. The N/A engines use a 200 watt pump, and the turbo engines use a 400w pump.

Ah interesting thanks. Maybe that’s part of the reason the connections melted on my old pump!
