Hope anyone can give some advice on a BMW Warranty issues

I'm 2 years in on a X4 agreement with a further 2 years to run and my warranty expires in Jan 2020.

Approx 2 weeks ago the power steering failed, and my wife managed to limp it into a BMW garage after speaking with BMW assist. The BMW garage advised it was a battery issue (low voltage) and replaced the battery.
Last Thursday on bypass doing 60sih the same thing happened, fortunately it was 11pm at night and I maned to get the car home (Lifting myself off the seat just to turn). BMW tech arranged a recovery back to BMW to sort. BMW replaced the steering rack and promised it ws now sorted. Car collected yesterday.
This evening 70mph on the motorway in the p******g rain, it fails again, same problem. BMW assist agree to recover blah, blah blah.

A few things running through my head, I can't trust the garage to fix, what happens if goes again after the expiry of the warranty and what will happen next ?

I’d pay the ~ £600 to cover it another year with zero excess, and it includes emergency assist, recovery etc.

It’ll save a lot of headaches... and quite frankly I’d not own anything new and BMW without one as they’re full of expensive to fix faults.

Any issue reported before the expiry of the warranty is covered after it has expired. Any new parts fitted in warranty are covered for two years.

Are you sure that parts replaced under warranty carry their own 2 year warranty? As I recall, typically parts replaced under warranty are only covered by that original warranty.

New parts which are purchased by the owner are however covered by their own independent warranty.

Speaking here as someone who ran a RR Sport for just under 8y from new without extending the warranty past the initial 3 Id say JFDI

Weirdly my car had no issues after the warranty expired until it lunched an alternator at year 6 and a suspension ride height sensor at the end of year 7

At which point I decided my luck had run out and I got rid of it

If it had thrown bills my way before then Id have binned it off sonner

Your car is a lot newer and has already started to misbehave
BMW fixing is expensive

Do you feel lucky???

The OP should flog it and buy something reliable, a new ish car like that with multiple faults. Would crack me up. All them BMW reliability surveys are not lying.

Catch 22, Come out now and lose a pile on early termination, stay in throw £600+ on warranty and hope that's it.

As for the car, they still don't how to locate the fault as they are stating its intermittent, so they can't give me the car back.

I’d get in touch with the lease company. A serious fault that keeps returning they can’t be fixed by the garage. The lease company have more sway with BMW than you do so try that route - they might allow an early termination.

Its BMW Finance - This may help actually further down the line, if they trace a fault to the factory.

If its a Factory fault, apparently BMW UK can come in and offer to move me on to a different vehicle without any big loss according to the Service Manager , its a bit fluffy to me though.

Completely incorrect on both points.

My car's suspension spring snapped. Gave it to bmw since I had comprehensive warranty at £60 per month. It has done only 50000 miles. Dealership said it's not covered under warranty. I contacted bmw warranty team and they said claim for this car hasn't been received.

Is retractable seat belt arm under comprehensive warranty? Dealership says no.

Car has fluid leak which I believe is wiper fluid. Dealership says inspection costs £350 and if not covered under warranty I have to pay with inspection costs.

Fingers crossed.

Admittedly this was on my BMW bike but I needed a new waterpump for that, last September.

The bike was JUST out of warranty but they did it for free.

BMW Wollaston, stated the replacement part was warrantied for a further 2 years even thou my warranty had expired, I cant see the cars being any different but I could be wrong...

That’s exactly how a Jaguar warranty works. Surprised if bmw aren’t the same.

So did you get the spring replaced under warranty? I've had a few changed.
I've found dealerships to be anti doing anything under warranty if they can get away with it. However the warranty company themselves are very good to deal with.

Motorrad tend to be really good in my experience. However, Bmw car side often need some fuss to be really kicked up on some warranty stuff, but it usually works for me smile.

Car is still at dealership. They might update me tomorrow. They quoted £1200 for 2 front springs which I cannot afford at all.
Does anyone know if seat belt retractable arm is under warranty?

They are completely wrong. The water pump would have been replaced gratis under goodwill. Unless you contributed anything to the cost of replacing then you have no warranty on this part at all. If it goes again after 6 months, you are liable for costs (although the reality is that the retailer would apply for goodwill again.

Similarly, had you had the pump replaced a few days before the end of the warranty period, the guarantee on the part would still have expired at the end of the Manufacturer’s Warranty. Any part replaced under the warranty only has the remainder of the term, and is not covered after this date.

Hope this helps.

Yes - if you pay for the parts you have a two year warranty. However, under warranty you don’t pay, hence you only keep the guarantee to the end of that warranty period, be it Manufacturer’s, Insured or AUC warranty.
