Put a deposit down on a 2013 335i today. M Sport, Black sapphire, auto. Will be my first BMW, so quite excited. Nice step up from my Mk5 GTI which I may end up keeping.
Intend to keep the BM stock, which is how I prefer my cars to be. The only thing that may tempt me is the M Performance exhaust but the standard one isn’t too bad at all. Also, may swap out the centre trim where the climate unit is for the gloss black one which came in later cars.
I must say, the N55 is a masterpiece. Along with the ZF 8 speed, BMW nailed it with that combination imo.
Funny thing is, decided to meet up with a friend at the local BMW main dealer after (he was getting his car serviced) and I sat inside the new M340i, makes the F30 seem pretty dated!

Looking at a 2014 335i and also moving from a GTi, wondering how has it been for you?
Hi it’s been problem free for me. Well balanced, smooth, not too bad on fuel considering it’s a 3.0 turbo straight six. Quicker than most cars you’ll see on the roads and makes a lovely sound particularly if you take to 7000rpm. The ZF8 auto is the best in the business well the best auto I have driven. Having said all of that I still prefer driving my GTI can’t exactly put my finger on it as to why but that’s just me. Prices for the F30 335i/435i are still holding well and they are relatively rare cars especially the 335i.

I recently bought a 435i so very similar interior to the 335i. Love the car though I suspect that if I’d driven one I’d agree with you that the GTi is more fun to drive; I think it comes down to the fairly lifeless steering. That said I’m very happy with the car overall as an excellent balance of family car/cruiser/performance saloon (I know mines a hatch but you get what I mean). As far as the new G series car goes, I had the opportunity to take a fully kitted out new 320d demo to France in 2019 and, engine aside, I found it a great car but afflicted with far too much tech for my taste (I must be getting old). With the hud and the led (?) binnacle I got sat nav information in 3 places, speed in 4 places etc. Too fussy for me.
With the F series Nav screen I get everything I need in one place and nice, simple easily read speed / revs / temp and fuel status right in front of me which I much prefer.
Had a conversation with a friend just last night who’s having similar issues with tech in his Tesla. He won’t have another and is going to go back to Mercedes when the time comes.
Horses for courses I know but thought I’d throw in my 2p worth

Sounds good, have decided to go for it. I'm going from a mk4 GTi so don't think i'll miss the handling as much as you miss your GTi. Prices for the F30 335i/435i are still holding well and they are relatively rare cars especially the 335i.

Nice, I wonder if the 4 series drives any different to the 3.As far as the new G series car goes, I had the opportunity to take a fully kitted out new 320d demo to France in 2019 and, engine aside, I found it a great car but afflicted with far too much tech for my taste (I must be getting old). With regards to the G20, I really like it, I think the interior is a big step up from the F generation and a nice blend of analogue and digital although the digital dash isn't up to Audi standards. But give me a proper speedo and rev counter anyday.
