Hello All,
Our 330d needs a new battery I think. It is a pre facelift.

Apologies if a silly question but is it a straight swap out/swap in or is there some kind of coding required meaning it has to go to BMW.

Does it present you with a need to enter radio codes etc after changing. Ours has iDrive btw ( don't know if significant)

I realise battery is in the boot btw! Looks a bit of a bind!

Thanks

Self quoting etiquette aside, a quick Google reveals I do have to register it with the car and this requires software to talk to it. Annoying.

I didn't code my new battery to my 2006 E90 330i and I didn't have any issues with it.

No, when the RAC fitted a new battery to my 06 plate E91 325i it didn't need coding so you should be OK.

It's not hard to get to, but looked a bit awkward to lift out as there isn't much space. Stereo, etc. all worked fine afterwards too. thumbup

Buy a new battery.
Remove and replace old one.
Easy to get to after the 5? plastic screws are removed.
Connect up.
Drive away.

That’s what I did to my old E91 a few years back.
No need to code.

If the car has IBS registration is needed. If not it isn’t. Your car is around the changeover date.

Yours has iDrive so has IBS. My early 330i has IBS because it has iDrive. This means the battery needs coding. There’s loads of people out there with Carly or the like.

I believe if you swap battery like for like you should be fine and don’t need to code it, but check that first.

Coding is for a different capacity, registration is for a new battery.
