I've just put a deposit down on a 2015 F11 520d M sport. When I've gone to get some insurance quotes they are getting on for £700 which is £250 more than I insure my 2010 325d saloon.

I've only just renewed the 325d before Christmas, so I assume it's the car. I know it's worth quite a bit more but I wasn't expecting this much more. Does anyone else have the same issue with an F10/F11?

I'm wondereing if it's because it's keyless? (I have found my old steering wheel lock and have ordered a faraday bag)...

It’s the value of the car, you’ve gone from a £2000 car to a £8000 car. (Just an example of values)

Probably a higher insurance group than the 3 series too. Not sure how much difference that might make but still at least part of the reason I'd have thought.

From my experience a few grand on the value of a car shouldn't effect the price at all, but what does affect it is the reg number for example time and time again I have got quotes for a certain car and got a price, missed out on it and found another car exactly the same and the price is far greater, so after calling the company to ask them to explain why, they told me the history of a car can affect the premium, so you could have a 2010 330i that cost 250 quid to insure and another, same car, same year and pay over 300, believe me I've been there. I did pay £250 for my 330i and now pay £218 for my 335i so work that out?? I have had various quotes on my old 325ti and decided to play with quotes on compare the market and even a colour difference can change things, top that up with 'a bad history' I used to get some silly prices

Back to your point though I have had some quotes on cars with varying values and unless the car is brand new, quotes are generally largely similar

Bit of an update...

When I checked the online portal of my current insurer, the additional cost was only around £100, which I've accepted as this is more than reasonable given that it's worth more, it's keyless and this includes any admin fees.

As people were asking, I'm 40 and live in the midlands (no way near Brum though), live on a new build estate but there were two high value Audi's lifted nearby fairly recently. I might try bmw insurance next time though!

Thanks all

I always do compare the market then direct line or something that isn't on comparison sites, then you will have a good idea of what you need to be paying. If BMW insurance is anything like their labour charges in garages, you'd probably be paying twice as much as what you need. I only pay £218 for a 335i living in an expensive area (ok a sh!t hole) in Bristol and that is with AXA not a micky mouse outfit
