Pondering a move to BMW.
Discussion
Brand loyalty can make you blinkered. For the last decade We've been JLR customers.
A chance encounter with a salesman and his M2 Competition led to the offer of a long and comprehensive test drive and an introduction to a whole new world of interesting cars last week.
The fact that we are considering a move from a diesel Discovery Sport to a smallish 2 door petrol car has highlighted the fact we have no need for a 7 seat SUV. We did once but the need passed and we just got into the habit of buying Land Rovers.
I'm finding the whole BMW range a bit confusing, so I'm after experiences and advice.
There is me, my wife and two Bedlington Terriers. 6-8000 miles a year. We want petrol, preferably six cylinders and it doesn't have to be as fast as an M2 but I'm quite happy if it is. Something with AWD possibly but definitely not an SUV but i do like a fast estate.
I'm thinking around the £50k mark and new not used.
Any thoughts on what would suit?
What about servicing? In 10 years of several Land Rovers, I've only had to have two services. The cost is absorbed into the deal with 5 years "free" servicing. Am i in for a shock with BMW?
Finally, security. Is all the "its easy to nick with a laptop" and "your M2 will be lifted from your drive by tech savvy criminals" chat by the bloke at he end of the bar any more relevant than it is now with a 45k Discovery Sport sitting outside?
I've noticed most BMWs come well equipped but that stuff like electric seats and keyless entry is usually extra as part of a comfort pack. Are there any must have options that you'd reccomend?
The sales guy we met said he had M2 Competition cars in stock. With Land Rover, sometimes we've ordered a build, and waited for minths. Other times theres been a decent choice from stock. With BMW in general, is it a case of building to order and waiting months, or is there usually decent stock of new metal?

Similar situation - currently have a 2011 530d estate but don’t particularly have a need for such a big car any more (both kids now driving) Fancy an M2C. Went out in one the other evening. Brutal. You’ll love it. Your dogs won’t
It really was a great test drive. I'm thinking the dogs may be gapper. They don't like being in the boot of the Landy so most times they're out they are clipped onto harnesses on the back seat anyway.
Using man logic for the M2C is easy. We don't use or need all the Disco Sport's capabilities, 7 seats off road stuff etc so lets get a car without those features but with other non essential capabilities like 400BHP.
