What BMW To Get Next

Currently in an E93 335i and whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed ownership (despite the famous N54 reliability) I think its time to move into something newer.

My requirements and usage:

Budget is a max of £16,000 or happy to lease if a decent deal can be found
MPG needs to be the same or if not better than what I get now (16mpg or less around town and 28mpg on a run)
Power needs to be the same or more
Nice engine and exhaust note
Ideally lower road tax (paying £555 at the moment)
Insurance group doesn't really matter
Similar running costs
Needs to carry 4 in comfort (current car does this surprisingly well)
Non convertible
RELIABILITY - I know cars go wrong but the N54 is a joke
I do around 30-40 miles a week if that

Currently hovering around the m235i or m240i

Any recommendations?

I had better luck with you it seems , re: N54.
I preferred it over the N55 which I’ve never gelled with apart from the M2.

So if in budget I’d say M240i over the 235.
B58 engine is sublime. I have it in a 340i touring.

Depends on size. But I’m not sure the 2 series is brilliant on rear space so maybe 440. Coupe or Grand coupe.

from comparisons I've seen on you tube the N54 and N55 are just as good, or bad as each other, just different issues if you happen to be that unlucky

You need to stretch your budget a touch and buy my M240i. Brilliant cars but I've decided to fulfil a childhood dream and get a Porsche 968.
