I noticed something on my car a while ago while on the motor way, n54 335i. at around 2500 revs as I apply a tiny bit of pressure on the throttle, the car took off, it was as though it was like a switch, all or nothing, best way to describe it after watching a wheeler dealers once when they had a Maserati with a drive by wire throttle and it was full power or nothing, but mine is lovely unless around those revs. I noticed too if I applied even less power at those revs the power was on off, on off as though it was confused. So Im hoping its just a discrepancy with the pedal position sensor and the throttle body position as at the time I not long had my turbos rebuilt by PMP, so hoping its nothing sticking with those as that's a long way back up there. if I'm right is this something a general mechanic can sort out or is it another typical needing specialist tools that not every one has to sort it? (thinking coding injectors, coding ABS pump etc) both of which needs specialist kit... you get my point. Thanks

Andy

if it is exhilarator or throttle position issue, is this something a general mechanic could sort out, or is it yet another specialist job, like injectors or ABS pump, which need coding with the proper kit?

I scanned the net and eventually found this..

1. Never touch the break pedal & key remains inserted the entire time
2. Insert key and push START Button
3. Press and HOLD accelerator pedal for 30 seconds (some say 5, some say 25 seconds - I did 30 to be sure).
4. WITHOUT RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, push the START Button
5. Release accelerator pedal
6. Wait full 2 minutes
7. Start car normally

I tried it, no reset noises or anything, but I was reading massively positive responses to this about instant power, funny reset noises etc I heard or felt none of this so wasn't sure if anything happened, but believe it or not it may have worked. It's a very specific point in the rev range where the issue occurs but so far touching the throttle at where I think is the right point it seems to be smooth... Anyway any way, any other suggestions if I find this hasn't helped? ,

I will say that mine is a manual so assume you need to touch the break pedal on an auto to start when depressing the start button whereas on a manual the clutch needs to be pressed obviously so got the jist that ignition needs to be on?? (why dint they just say that)

Na didn't work, any other ideas? The point in the rev range when it happens seems to vary but never at low revs or really high, it seems to be 2 and a half to 3 and a half thousand revs. It's not something that's subtle either, its quite violent as though I'm putting my foot to the floor but I'm only feathering the throttle really. I'm convinced its something to do with throttle position sensors but know nothing about how to sort it. if this is the case, is it a specialist job that need the software to code various bits like injectors or ABS pump etc??
