Hit a pothole yesterday on the n circ london straight after clunk clunk noise under front offside area....garage tomorrow god knows whats happened ...middle of the night hammering it with rain..

It could be the strut shaft has driven past the fail stud on the hub housing. That is designed (poorly, there are other solutions IMHO) to avoid damage to the top mount fixing on the body.
