Bmw x5 e70 Fuel Usage

I've owned this x5 for just over a month now. I've noticed that the fuel usage when the tank is anything over a quarter full seems to be quite high. I thought I was going crazy when I first noticed it. I have monitored it now over two fill ups and its definately drinking fuel when the tank is over a quarter full. The needle hits quarter of a tank and the fuel usage becomes more normal?

The dash doesnt show any drop in MPG figures, the range drops quite dramatically. I'm not driving it like I stole it either, I've been trying to be as economical as I can.

Never come across any issues like this before, hoping someone can shed some light on to it.

As the OBC isn’t showing you a change in MPG, and you haven’t mentioned brim to brim fill up checks, I take it you’re relying solely on the needle’s movement ?

So common sense would dictate, the needle (fuel level sender) isn’t accurate.
