Considering a 2015/2016 435d Gran Coupe, for my next set of wheels.

Asking the PH Massive what to look out for on these cars, when looking to buy?

After 3 years of 435xd ownership cant say theres anything major and obvious. Some have reported steering column issues across all models. Quick Google will sum up the symptoms.

Owned a 335d e92 previous which has boost hose perishing but no signs on this one.

Just look out for poor diamond cut alloy repairs and definitely go for a car with m sport plus pack.

Thanks, do you know how the Steering Column issue manifests itself?

Regular oil changes are key on the N57 & N47 engines (the N57 is the 30d/35d motor as found in F 3 & 4 series cars). The N47 (18d & 20d) motors had pretty well documented issues with timing chains, most people agree this was exacerbated by the lengthy oil changes on these cars (18k/2 years). The N47 was switched out to the newer B47 diesel around 2015, whilst the more powerful 30d and 35d models kept the N57 motor. Whilst timing chain issues are less common on the N57 there's still numerous ones with issues. So make sure you buy one that's had it's oil changes done in good time and going forward I'd look to get it done every 10k/12 months irrespective of what the car/BMW say.

We've had a 2015 435d xdrive msport cabrio for four years now; no real issues but do try and test drive a car on 18" rims and 19" rims. We test drove two on 19" rims and the ride was rock hard in the front and teeth loosening in the back; the third car we test drove was on 18" rims and it is a so much better ride.

Some people might like the bone crushing ride but personally the car drives better on 18's.

Oh, and all the cars were subject to an EGR recall check - make sure it's been done.

I spent 2y in a leased 335d

Launch control was addictive and a complete hoot

It always felt pretty brutal

There MUST be a record of how many times its been activated in the idrive

Cheers

No actually, allegedly noticed by more of a swoosh noise on warm idle coming from the back of the engine.

Don't rule out the 430d - you might get a newer car for your money. If you go RWD, you'll also get better suspension than on the XDrive.

You might even be able to stretch to an LCI model, depending on your budget.
