May have the opportunity to buy one of these and just wondering the value.

It's has approx. 100k miles, bodywork looks good, no rust on wings, all totally original.

It has approx. 60 days of it's MOT left and was used regularly until a few months ago when the owner bought a new car

Full leather, not sure if sports seats, not had a decent look inside.

The owner has a history of changing cars and just leaving the old ones on the driveway/field to rot.
I think it's too good for that.

I did mention if he wanted to sell it when I knew he had got a new car and he said he hadn't decided what to do with it.
He's not one to be rushed so I've left it.

His wife just said 'just make him an offer'.
My wife is ok for me to buy it but I can't offer that much (just about to buy a holiday flat) so maybe £500-600? £750 max.

I know it could go for more than that but the owner isn't one to advertise on Ebay/Gumtree etc.. He just can't be arsed with the hassle.

So should I just go in at £500 and see what he says?

If its a genuine 328i Sport Touring with 100k miles and no rust its worth considerably more than £500 hehe

Worth a go of course, they might not know what its worth!

It’s definitely a genuine M Sport 😊

I offered £650 tonight
He didn’t say no so that’s a good sign
He’s going to let me know

He knows it’s worth more than that but he also hasn’t the time or inclination to advertise it and contend with dheads when he has a buyer in front of him 😊

If I do get it it will be a keeper
It won’t be used much just pampered and taken out on dry and sunny days 😊

Bit of an update.

The £650 offer has been on the table since end of Feb!!
Wow, didn't realise it was so long.

Haven't seen each other because of the Covid 19.

Went round last night for a social distance chat and increased my offer to £1000.

I think that was a figure he had in mind.

Signs are encouraging. He didn't say no and went on to say what he knew was wrong with it, new battery needed, stereo has been removed, left in car and he hasn't got the code, MOT has run out but hopefully not much wrong with it.

He also said I hope you don't buy it and sell it on. Told him no way, it will be a keeper. Pampered, garaged and driven a couple times a week in decent weather. Said I've always wanted another E36 since I sold my 318is 8 years ago.

I left it with him so fingers crossed.

If no rust and otherwise ok, sounds like a bit of a bargain.

These can be quite a classy looking car. Nice if it is a manual. What colour and any pics?

No rust that I can see, I know that wheel arches are a known rust spot.

No doubt there may be a bit underneath or under the body kit panels where can get trapped.

Past MOT history is all minor stuff, number plate, bushes etc..

No pictures of actual car but it's exactly like one below.

And yes it's manual with montana leather interior.

He knows it's worth more but as well as being family he just can't be bothered with the hassle of advertising it and dealing with timewasters.
He has a few cars and tractors in his back field including an old Landcruiser, original Mini, 2 x Ford tractors dating from 1970s and a Micra.

It's a Sport - they hadn't started calling them M Sports at that stage. They're great cars if you can find a good one, but if it has been sitting for a while, it'll need all the fluids changing and probably some of the rubber components too.
My E36 (320i) Touring served us well when the kids were little, a friend had the 328i at the time and it had so much more grunt. Good luck with it & keep us posted.

Ok, thanks, didn't know they were just called Sport. Just doesn't sound as good :-)

It ran out of MOT March but had been standing probably 2-3 months before that.
It's been started a few times and he's kept the tyres pumped up but done nothing else.

I'll keep the thread updated.

I had one that colour, Ascot green.

E36's with plastic sill covers really hide rot well so you must pull the covers off. You'll find a lot of the sill will come with it and a load of bran flakes.

I’m not 100% sure they made a 328i touring sport ? They did make a 323i touring sport. The one in the picture is a SE .

They didn’t. You had to order the Sport parts as optional extras.

So it may be an SE with the Sports stuff added at the dealer or post sale?

Hopefully when I eventually get it I can have a good luck, take lots of photos to establish what it actually is.

ETA Just did a quick search for insurance on Footman James and it comes up as a 328i SE Touring.

Went round there tonight to see if he had made a decision but he’s still thinking about it 🙄
Said I could pick it up at the weekend.
Transfer the money whenever but he’s not one to be pushed into a decision.
I’ll just have to wait.
Got a quick photo driving out.
Not great but it was through a windscreen whilst driving (on private land) 😀

Looks good. Seems to have the proper M tech body kit and also the nice Style 30 alloys. Colour looks good too!

I like the colour
Not sure what the actual colour is called
I’ll update the thread if anything significant happens smile

Fern green I believe, it was available on the touring 1998/1999. What colour is the headliner?

Identical to what I had 5 years ago, well done you!

Well, still haven't closed the deal.

Went to see him last weekend to have a chat.

I asked him if I was wasting my time going to se him every few weeks? smile
Did he actually want to sell it?

He said he is attached to the car and just needs to get his head around selling it.
he then went on to mention that a guy who does dog training with his wife said he was interested in buying it.

I then upped my offer twice to £1500 which is the max I want to pay.

He said that was more like the figure he was thinking of and he wouldn't sell it to the other guy anyway.

He still wouldn't commit so I left him to have yet another think smile

He has started it up and driven it up his track so it does work.
Looked inside and it looks in good nick.
Leather a bit warn but can be cleaned up easily.

I'm close . . . .

Sounds like a car deal between a guy who doesn't want to sell a car and a guy who doesn't want to buy one.
