Mrs Fb keeps going on about how much she loves the 6 series shape, having had an E60 530d previously. I stumbled across a decent 3.0i sport which ticks all the boxes as a second car, but rear leg room looks pretty much zero !?

We have 11 year old twins and wondered is it really going to be that much of a squeeze for them in the back ? We have a Touareg for daily duties so the 6 will be a weekend/evening out car for her.

Cheers

Depends how tall the driver and front passenger are. I had a 630i, I’m 6 foot and like to lie down legs stretched so no space at all behind me. However if I pulled the seat forward to a more normal position my 11 year old fitted fine so long as they don’t want to stretch legs. Passenger side with the front seat mid point had ample room for mrs veesix in the front and my taller 15 year old in the back.

Just don’t ask them to tour Europe in the back ......it was a nice car, lci version, avg about 32 mpg over 50k miles and only serviced it, no faults.

I'd say it's fine in the back for kids. I took my 650i convertible on a 1,500 mile road trip to Thurso and back and didn't have any complaints. Even adults seem to be ok with it for short trips. It was a special car, so people were more prepared to put up with the snug fit.

Take the twins to sit in the back of a Skoda Superb.

check out the slightly rarer 6 Series "Gran Coupe"...the 4-door version with a 11cm longer wheel base for rear leg room...
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/6-series/gran-co...

I justified it as a family car with more style than a 5 series, plus as the rear seats fold down it is almost an estate!

Plus i think it is actually better proportioned than the 2 door 6.

...not to be confused with what BMW are now calling the 6 series "GT", which is the old 5 series GT - hatch back! ugly.

wink

Assume you are referring to F series 6 series?

I have a coupe and there is absolutely zero room behind my seat when I am driving with seat in my normal position, but I am 6 foot 6.

If you are of 'normal' height there will obviously be more room, if my wife drives there is plenty of room for our 10 or 6 year old behind, plus I can move the seat forward enough for my 6 year old daughter to sit behind me. I'm not as comfortable but can still drive it fine.

Thanks for the replies, would probably have been helpful if I mentioned which model ! We are looking at E63/4 shape ones.

There was a local car dealer selling one and I managed to pop over and have a look. In my driving position I could actually get out and then sit in the back, granted I wouldn’t have wanted to be in there for a 1000 miles, but it wasn’t the worst place to sit. I think the twins will do just fine in the back for a few years yet. They are used to being jammed in the back of a 3000GT so this will be no shock laugh

The search begins :cool

I am 6'3 and there is absolutely zero leg room behind me in the E64.

Try and see if you can find an Individual one, ideally a full merino Composition 1, including individual 19' wheels and steering wheel with wood inlay, very rare though. I snapped one last summer after more than year of (not so intense) search. That car is an automotive sculpture.

This. I love mine, loads of room everywhere, the boot is huge, as is the leg room in the rear. Best car I have owned.

Also note that with the facelift, the 3 litre petrol engine has been "upgraded" (for wanting a better term) to N53 unit with a fair share of issues linked to it being a first direct injection petrol engine. For this reason I have purposefully a pre-facelift car with N52 engine - if this is the one you want than aim for the latest possible manufacture date as those units come with a revised cylinder head, sporting thicker and sturdier exhaust valve stems and revised hydraulic tappets which prevent ticking caused by oil drain when left standing for a longer period. If you are looking at a V8 than there is no issue as facelift still retains the port injected N62 unit.

6 GT is the new version of the 5 GT. If the OP is looking at E63/E64's (coupe/cabrio) then I don't think they'll be in the market for a F07 or G32. Completely different car types.

Let her buy what she wants, you dont have to drive it. She can take one kid in the 6 and you can take one on the bike.

Job jobbed.

Thanks for this information.. I was bargaining on getting a LCI mainly because I figured the later SAT ‘box would be better than the earlier atx box ? The physical body changes are so subtle it doesn’t actually sway me any particular way so that isn’t a major deciding factor. I’ve figured I don’t want the E64 so again choice starts limiting things a little .

Surprising to read the later N53 is more susceptible to issues, again I was going for LCI based on hoping later engine was better !

The only real swaying factor is tax.. I’ve already got a £570pa car and saw most lci 630’s were only £260 tax.

Looks like I need to look into things more.

Mine was an e63 lci n53, no issues at all from 49k to 98k, better gearbox, decent economy and lower road tax.

Don’t let the doom mongers put you off, I’d have another.

Well I picked up one today... chuffed to bits with it and at 5’11 the nippers have enough room. I have a really buggered left leg which actually makes me sit a fraction closer than most my height would sit which is probably what helps.

50 miles covered and love it. I know it’s based on the E60 but it feels leagues ahead of my E60 !
