Well i've done circa 7k miles in my D3 since buying it last April .

The car has never felt as quick i think it should be given the claimed 211 BHP and 450 Nm spec and hence i'm waiting to get the car booked in for a DPF terra clean session, EGR delete and also get the lack of perfomance investigated further.

I did also note the rev counter has a red line that shows 5K rpm and when started changes to 4750. I assume that one warm the red line should change to 5K but this doesn't happen. Any thoughts from other D3 owners. There is nothing in the Alpina supplement about the rev counter

I have also looked at the vacuum lines and cant find any obvious leaks

Would love to hear if something is stopping the rev counter red line increasing to 5K when its warmed up

Thanks

You should be able to get the temperature data with a cheap bluetooth OBD dongle and the Torque App.

You seem to have not moved forward with anything, since you asked the questions in October. Maybe just book it in to a specialist?

nobody can diagnose a car over the internet - it involves looking and checking and probing and testing and measuring.

get a diagnostic flow chart and work through it, and if no joy take it to a garage.

Well i've managed to unlock the hidden menu, its the last 5 digits of the BMW Vin and not the 6 digit number that is displayed in menu 01 when you 1st enter the hidden menu. The water temp sensor is working fine so i've scrolled through and came to :

07.04 – N-VWF-MOM (current start position of tachometer yellow field) this is currently set to 4800 , i assume its the current RPM limit and hence does any one else actually know what other devices / inputs to the ECU change / set this value

Any advice ?

Ive installed BMW DIS V57 and scanned my car and its come up with:

BMW fault code 494A which relates to the Glow System

What do i need to do..............

The message states no voltage at term 30 at glow control unit

Thanks

I've decided to service the whole Glow plug system and replace the controller and the 4 plugs just in case there is a defective glow plug that can damage the glow plug controller.

Ordered the bits for £103 inc P&P which was half the trade price i was offered at MPD.

Seeing as the cars coming to bits i'm doing the swirl flaps at the same time

I'm probably missing something but can't immediately see how the glow plugs might be affecting the engine's performance. Still worth fixing though of course, but it may not fix the original issue you posted about.

Thanks b14,

I'm not sure either that the glow plug issue isn't the route cause of the loss of power but with out any other advice from someone who knows the Alpina ECU code in detail its my first item to attend to as i'm told that the DPF won't regen without the glow plug system functioning correctly.

I'm also going to do a swirl flap delete and clean all the grunge from the inlet manifold and anti shudder valve as the MAP sensor had a lot of grunge on it when i looked at that the other day.

Will report back afterwards

Have you looked in to that ‘ no voltage at terminal 30’ fault.

I presume that corresponds to the common on a relay ?

Also, does that DTC come back after starting the car, or is it just a stored fault from a few years back ?
