Hi I've been trying to unlock the hidden menu on my D3 Bi Turbo Alpina to check if the temp sensor is working as the red line is reduced and the car isn't going that well

There is no code present to indicate failure of the sensor and the redline stays reduced to 4750 instead of 5000 hence is there an easy way to test the sensor as iv followed the you tube stuff on hidden menu and still can get the car to un lock and dispay the temp

Thanks

Many thanks

I have posted on there also , the number ive entered won't unlock hence i was wondering if it needs to be the last 5 digits of the VIN added together ?

If there is an issue you'd be better to take it to a dealer, Sytner would be best I guess.

which Vin number, the car has 2 of them ,

As for taking it to a dealer......... well sytner are over 4 hours drive so thats £60 in diesel, an overnight stop for another £60 and then whatever the dealer charges to change a £12 sensor, this is starting to sound expensive so i'm just going to order the sensor on line and spend the £200 - 600 i've saved on a hooker !

Well i've managed to unlock the hidden menu, its the last 5 digits of the BMW Vin and not the 6 digit number that is displayed in menu 01 when you 1st enter the hidden menu. The water temp sensor is working fine so i've scrolled through and came to :

07.04 – N-VWF-MOM (current start position of tachometer yellow field) this is currently set to 4800 , i assume its the current RPM limit and hence does any one else actually know what other devices / inputs to the ECU change / set this value

Any advice ?

download INPA software to your laptop and go do some diagnosis.

Thanks Olas

I will let you know how i get on. The car is still driveable and the commute i do doesn't give me that much chance to hit any rev limit but now i'm not working ive got more time to do some digging so will see what i can find

Thanks Sir Dave

I did finally manage to get a copy of INPA installed on an old Win 7 laptop. I then looked at all the OBD11 to USB cables i have and i don't have a compatable cable with that supports the K+DCAN chip set so i went on FleaBAy and bought a cable which will also work with the full BMW DIS diagnostic S/W for less than a plug in at a BMW garage so hopefully i might be able to get more detail on whats wrong.

Will post update later
