Headlight main beam not working - any ideas - does it have to be the switch or could be something else?

I'm assuming you have checked the bulb?

Check the bulb - often they are one of these dual-filament types (dipped and main beam in the same bulb). If the bulb is separate, then start from the connection at the bulb - is it a good one? Clean up contacts n both the connector and the bulb.

I'd then look at switch gear as the next likely issue. You might need a multimeter for investigating things, to check power and grounds. Can you get hold of a circuit diagram?
