I recently bought a bmw 123d and the previous owner fitted it with a cat less down pipe and has had the back box of the exhaust removed the cars runs fine but sometimes after parked up for a few days it will give off a very loud drone sound and vibration in the cabin when on motorway at 70mph+ speeds once I come off the throttle to around 60 it stops does anyone know what it could be I've just had the wheels balanced but it's not solved the issue

My money is on it being a sticking rear brake caliper.

Have a look at the comments on this PH thread. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=16...

I had the same symptoms as you describe on my E92 335i............it was also a corroded and sticking ear brake caliper.

HTH.

If the car is vibrating but the steering is fine it's a sticking caliper as mentioned, I had exactly the same on my 125i.
