New 420 owner!
Discussion
Finally!
I've wanted a BMW for years and at last had the excuse to pull the trigger on one. It's a 420d M-Sport, 17 plate with 11,000 miles. A real looker to be honest, even if it only has the captain sensible power plant. For the next few months it'll be doing around 500 miles per week of purely motorway driving, but that should tail off. It's due a service at 20k or 10/2020.
The inevitable question of remapping has cropped up. The thought of 190->230bhp for a few hundred notes is hella appealing, but maybe I'll leave that discussion for another time ;-)
In the meantime, I'm doing all the research I can on these models to see what I'm likely to encounter in terms of known issues, things to look out for, weak areas, etc. It's my first 'proper' car and I want to get stuck in with maintaining it well and maybe fixing some issues myself along the way.
I understand it comes with the B47 engine, which doesn't appear to have as many issues as the N47, or at least not yet. It's due a service in 9k miles, but is it still recommended to get the oil changed more frequently than BMW's recommended intervals?
Any advice you have would be really appreciated.
Cheers guys.

Sounds like your going to be your using your car as a diesel should be used, 500 miles per week , so I don’t see why you’d need to go over and above the set service schedules, I've wanted a BMW for years and at last had the excuse to pull the trigger on one. I had the B47 (2017) and it did have a problem with something called a swirl flap actuator motor after 44k miles. But I’d say enjoy your car , rather than worry too much about possible issues.
Compared to most rubbish on the roads , it’s still a fast car. I had the heavier X1 and had a great fun beating a Fiesta ST up a twisty hill.
