Hi All,
I bought a cheap run around on Monday, a really nice 2005 330i SE on 92000 miles. It’s a really lovely car with loads of options. Even came with its invoice from 2005 for £39000 (off finance too! laugh )

When inspecting the car the AC wasn’t working, I mentioned this and the salesman was very apologetic and said he would get this sorted. Car has been at the garage for 3 days now and they cannot figure it out, they’ve tried everything! Compressor, Regas it just will not blow cold air. I said maybe the clutch but apparently it hasn’t got one.

Anyone got any ideas? Possibly a common issue on early E90’s?

Thanks

Mr Tidy

Nice choice of car by the way! My daily is a 55 plate 330i with some good options, but I didn't realise they were that expensive new. eek

When the A/C in my Z4 Coupe died it turned out to be a leak from the condenser as it is pretty prone to getting hit by road debris.

You need to find somewhere that will fill the system with gas that has dye in it so you can see where it is leaking.

I was surprised at the new cost as well! £53k ish in today’s money. The smile on my face when the salesman said “Oh it comes with the original invoice if you want?”

And yes, the dealer that sold the car is using their local garage (who seem to have good reviews) to fix the AC. They’ve done the leak test with the dye but it appears to be a bit of an electrical issue.

Is the compressor actually doing anything? If fluid is circulating you'll feel a temperature difference between the flow & return pipes.

That is an impressive spec. thumbup

Mine just has the sunroof, poplar wood trim, folding mirrors, Bi-Xenons and split-fold rear seats as well as a retro-fitted DAB radio.

I just hope you can get your A/C sorted.

From what I could hear/see. When the AC was turned on the RPM’s on idle would raise, but I couldn’t hear any difference... the garage just can’t figure out why it’s not blowing cold air.... anyways it’s with the garage now and they’re keeping it until it’s fixed and the dealer are paying so I’m not going to stress over it.

I am swapping out the Poplar for the “Diamantshwarz“ Piano Black, found a full set of trims on eBay for £125 so jumped at it!

It’s a really lovely car, I’ve come from a 2016 Golf R and have no regrets, even prefer it!

Hi,
They might have to get someone to re-programme the car. I have seen one store a fault in the JBE that stopped the air-con from switching on. Ask them to do a full diagnostic on all control unit and post up any faults that don’t clear.

The garage have just called me, they’ve tried everything. The issue is when they tell the AC to turn on via the OBD on a computer it boots up immediately and blows cold air. But upon pressing the button on the dash there’s no 12v feed to the compressor.

They are going to try and reprogram it, they are taking it to a BMW Specialist today.

I haven’t checked, but the garage said when they give it a command through the OBD it blows ice cold air. They think it’s either a bad wire on the climate control unit, or it needs reprogramming (which they are doing today)

Could be something like a vent flap motor. I.e. the thing is working fine but the air pathway is blocked....its why I suggested just checking to see if the feed pipes between the compressor and the evaporator are getting cold. One of them should get ice cold pretty quickly

Junction Box Electronics. Is part of the body electric module. It’s whats in charge of switching the compressor on, it gets a message from the climate control module

Just heard back from the Dealer/Garage. It’s an issue with the climate control display and the part isn’t due in until the end of the week...
