Evening gents,
I am about to swap in to a coupe and I’m torn between the 640d and the 435d... both late 2016/ early 2017 with similar miles.
The 640d interior trumps the majority of BMWs, even when comparing the 2017 6 to modern BMs... it’s truly stunning. However, I’ve got some Qs:
The majority of my driving is motorway driving 300 miles a week - what’s the motorway mpg like in your experience cruising at 75?
How are you finding it performance wise? The 435d is a BEAST but the 640d isn’t too far behind in terms of stats.
Any advice would be great,
Cheers

There is comparison as regards the interior, the 435d would seem very low rent compared to the 640d, which would also be significantly quieter on the motorway. The 435d is xdrive which may or may not be an advantage for you. The 640d is rwd only in the UK (xdrive elsewhere). MPG should be very similar.
For motorway usage I would not hesitate to go for the 640d.

I did 15k miles last year in a 640d, build quality, interior fit and finish, fuel economy was great. I agree that the 4 series interior is not as nice. The 3.0d engine has a recall issue but most have prob been sorted by now. Great car. Mpg was 38-40 real world on the motorway in sport mode. It will easily do 45+ in eco pro mode but it’s like driving a crap car in that mode.
Had my 640d a year now and bought it for the same reasons, motorway miles (little did I know that I'd end up moving to outer London 6 months later though).
I had a similar choice as you, I nearly looked at a 340i as I wanted to stay petrol originally but I noticed that 640ds were not too similar on price. Interior is no competition, I think it's widely acknowledged as being over of their better interior's, likewise comfort, fit and finish, road noise etc better. I'd suggest looking for HUD if possible as it's the one toy I'd really want on any future car.
50mpg is achievable at 70-75 in eco pro mode, I've even had near 60mpg on a slow long journey. But I'd say 40-45mpg is more realistic for normal driving.

)I have one as a daily driver. Get one with Full Merino leather if like quality interiors, it adds much more leather and alcantara over basically the entire interior and was the most expensive option when new (near £6k extra).
I've done 50k miles in mine now in 2 years and the overall average is 38mpg, it will rise to mid 40s on a long run if set on cruise at 75-79mph (the adaptive cruise option is great).
Avoid the 20 inch wheels if doing mileage and ditch runflats. Try to get adjustable suspension if possible, but it is rare with only about 1/7 cars fitted.
