Hi all,

This isn’t concerning my car, but my Dads.
He bought a 2018 640i Gran Turismo approved used from a well known BMW garage in the south west.

Car was originally £67,000 and he paid £30,000 at 2 years old.

I was just outside and noticed a massive run on the rear bumper where excess laquer has been applied. Okay I understand cars are damaged and repaired often, but do you think this is acceptable from a BMW Dealer? Should he take it back or live with it. It’s 6 months he’s owned it now.

If you're not happy with it and want the dealer will sort it out, I'd start there myself. I've noticed some odd discolouration on the paint on my X3M and I will point it out to the dealer when I'm next there and would expect them to look at it, I'd do the same with yours.

I had some crazed paint/clear coat on my 7 series last year on the roof, again I pointed it out to them and they sorted under warranty, your issue shouldn't be a problem for them to resolve.

Just point it out and ask for it to be repaired.

It depends on the dealers interest on keeping your future custom.

They have no liability to put that right on a used car unless they assured you the car hadn't had any paint when he bought it.

No harm in asking them though, let us know what they say.

Many dealers use the mobile van/paint repairs guys to do bumpers.

My local Audi dealership let's them do it in the corner of their car park in full view of customers.

It’s quite orange peely and noticeable now I’ve seen it, but doesn’t really bother my dad... so I think we will leave it. Thanks all.

The dealer I got mine from had a very shoddy smart repair done on my 630d GT rear bumper. Got it home and valeted. The guys buffer rippled the paint. Took it back to the South East for them to fix. Took them a week, crap repair again which I made them note.

Fast forward a year and this happened!

After another terse email exchange they agreed to pay for my local dealer to respray the whole bumper. Would never go anywhere near the South East to buy another BMW. Thankfully my local dealers are great.
