M140i Servicing
Discussion
Hi
I’ve got a 2 year old M140i with 12k on the clock. It’s due it’s first service so I’ve spoken to Kwik Fit about their OEM service (it’s contract hire, going back in a year so needs to be done somewhere approved). They’ve said it will require new air, oil and pollen filter along with 6.5 litres of oil and it costs £268. Not spoken to BMW yet but what have others paid?

Put your registration into BMW Service website , select your local dealer and that will give you a price.
Can Kwik fit update the service history on iDrive ?
If not , make sure whoever receives it back is happy with just an invoice.
Thanks. From the research I’ve done before I think only BMW can access the iDrive, despite the EU rulings. My understanding is a receipt/invoice is sufficient. I think KF are pulling the wool regarding the other filters which I don’t think are necessary. Can Kwik fit update the service history on iDrive ?

Anyone who signs up to BMW system can update iDrive , so BMW Specialist can do this.
1st oil service is usually pretty cheap and I think is just oil and micro filter. The website will confirm.
How ? we can update the online system but it will not show on the idrive, this has to be done with the car and dealer level diagnostics.1st oil service is usually pretty cheap and I think is just oil and micro filter. The website will confirm.
First service on the BMW should be oil and filter and the cabin filter - or microfilter in BMW speak. The next service should be oil, air, plugs and microfilter.
A genuine micro filter is stupidly priced now, if using aftermarket parts i'd say £150, if using genuine then closer to £200, and yes supply your own oil, we wouldn't have an issue with that.

Any independent garage can purchase the diagnostic software and subscribe to BMW to allow services to added to the history.First service on the BMW should be oil and filter and the cabin filter - or microfilter in BMW speak. The next service should be oil, air, plugs and microfilter.

That's about what my first service cost with a BMW dealer, so it doesn't sound like you're saving anything there. £270 IIRC.I’ve got a 2 year old M140i with 12k on the clock. As it’s contract hire I would double check your finance documents as a couple of the funders still require main dealer servicing.
As for what’s needed it is likely to be Oil, Oil Filter, Microfilter and Standard Scope (£30 for pluging into a computer).
If the price difference is only £50 or so I would recommend using the main dealer as in the unlikely event you have an engine warranty claim it might take longer to resolve as BMW will want proof of parts and maybe an oil sample.

Thanks all, lots of helpful points.
Looks as if BMW charge about £300 but without the various filters which I won’t need. Appreciate people’s concerns about Kwik Fit but a family member used the same branch with no issues and the lease company accept it. At the end of the day they are changing the oil, not stripping down an engine.

So you run an M140 but are quibbling about the cost of a service despite being given options of how to reduce the cost of having it serviced by BMW ?
By all means take it to Kwik Fit, just dont come back on here if in future if
1) BMW refuse any warranty claim
2) BMW refuse any goodwill gesture
3) the lease company decide it wasnt OEM or equivilent oil and filters
Etc etc

Thanks. Not quibbling it, just trying to get a feel for what others have done or been charged. I'd rather not spend more than I need to, I'm sure most people are the same. Just striking a balance between cost, quality and not having the wool pulled over my eyes.By all means take it to Kwik Fit, just dont come back on here if in future if

Point of note, the oil filters on B58s can be a PITA to get out/disintegrate when trying to remove them. If BMW are doing the work, the remedial work is there problem, if Kwikfit are doing the work it's there problem. I suspect one garage is probably better equipped at sorting the issue out than the other.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
