Hi guys,

Just bought a 335i (2007 E92, N54 engine) with a bunch of mods/maintenance done meaning it should be a good platform for hitting some serious power figures. It's had turbos reconditioned, new water pump, new injectors, catless downpies, bigger intakes, 7" intercooler, vrsf charge pipe & tial BOV and dual cone intake. Apparently it's had a map done at some point too. No idea of current power but its quick!

My questions/asks for advice:

Should this setup be over 400bhp?

I'd like to make a couple more mods to push the power a bit further. Any ideas on what I could do (short of hybrid turbos/higher octane fuel)?

I'm thinking I might get it walnut blasted as not done yet and then get it remapped by someone reputable as a starter. Good plan of action?

Thanks in advance.

You might be better off just getting a baseline on a dyno, as you don’t know if it had a remap, but almost certainly will have had.

With MHD that would be a stage 1+/2 which would be over 400 bhp (I had this on my Z4 35iS and it was very quick indeed)

First thing I'd want to do is verify the state of the tune - get it on a dyno and get some A/F readings to check it's not overly rich or overly lean on full and variations of part throttle.

Aside from the engine, has it had any chassis work done? Might be nice to put a bit of money into some brake upgrades and suspension upgrades. Also, general servicing of transmission and diff.

Thanks for the responses.

It's got BC coilovers and adjustable droplinks. Is quite a nice ride at current settings.

Yes definitely plan on getting another map done once I've had it walnut blasted. Any suggestions as to the best place to get a map done within an hour or so of London? I've heard good things about evolve?

Thanks

As I hinted, for N54 engines, look up MHD. Superb platform, allowing you to map your car by a OBD dongle in different stages and customise a myriad of details. Transformed my Z4

I have the MHD app and OBDII cable to connect to car although I want a custom map tweaked on a dyno as that should yield a better result than an off the shelf MHD map?

I had my N54 335i mapped my Evolve back in 2011 ( The 335i dyno plot they currently use on their website is still from my car ). They did my previous E36 M3 too. They are good.

The downipes and Intercooler should be capable of getting you up to 400ish but as others have said check the baseline now. I never had the heads on mine walnut blasted so can't recommend somewhere to have it done; someone on here might point you in the direction of somewhere you can have the head / ports inspected ( endoscope ); it may have been done.

Another potential place for the remap is Simon at e-maps. Very good rep, inexpensive, will travel to you...........and last time I asked he was running a 335i himself, albeit an N55.

Why lose the dci?

Also what does jb4 allow you to do that MHD can’t?

Thanks

Re DCI its been debated so many times, it seems it just a matter of opinion now

My view is it takes in more hot air and allows more dust/particles to enter the engine for minimum/no gains. Personally don't like the sound either

I didn't bother with my car and left it stock but was tempted for a STETT CAI

JB4 to control meth flow thumbup both MHD+JB4 seems optimum - both have advantages/disadvantages

Thanks. Ah ok so you need the jb4 to run meth basically? What would jb4+ meth kit set you back?

Cheers for the useful info

I think the jb4 was like 700 and the tank, pump hoses etc another 700
