Hi, forgive me if you've read this on the EV forum.

I've just this week encountered the dreaded "red circle" and "Charge aborted - Mains Power too Low" dash error, when trying to charge up my F30 330e PHEV, using both cable types and different charge points (home and public).

Booked in to dealer Friday to diagnose.

I have seen mention of this issue previously, though for the 530e, and it looks like a new KLE/charging control unit was the solution, so I am sure it will be the same for my 330e.

However, most people had this issue within warranty, thus got it replaced free of charge. My car is just three months beyond the end of warranty. I'm hoping that, on the basis the car was bought and serviced by the same dealer for the last three years, that it counts for something and there is some sort of goodwill I can ask for.

So, I just wondered, if anyone else has found themselves in the same position as me, ideally in the UK, with this issue just outside of warranty, and what your outcome was, and worst case what the cost was?

If I'm landed with the whole bill it will be a while before I touch another PHEV again.

Cheers for any responses.

Did you get the fault fixed? Was it the KLE module? I am now getting the red ring and mine is just out of warranty.

Hi

Fixed it today. After booking it in initially for diagnosis (£99 fee), they wanted 2k to replace the KLE. I say no way, they refer to BMW for “goodwill”. Which was provided by reducing cost to £288.

Now I have a fuel cap error, it doesn’t always open straight away and I get error messages on the dash “fuel system error” or something like that. They want £300 just to diagnose that! I suspect the same process will prevail when I go back in for that.

Be interesting to hear how you get on.

I have just hit this issue too.

How is the car after the KLE replacement? Is this something that is going to need doing every 4 years?!?

Is there a different way I can get this done rather than via a BMW dealer?

Thanks!
Mark
