Would love some opinions
On the lookout for a daily as I am putting too many miles on my E92 M3
I am a big fan of the E60 and have set aside a budget of 5/6k to get one.
I have noticed that the early F10s have dropped in price to 7/8k
Would it be worth while for me to up the budget to get into an F10 over the E60?

Early F10's are ten year old cars. Most sub £5000 ones are high mileage 520d money pits to be avoided.
As a rule of thumb the E60 is about half or 60% of the price of an F10. '07 onwards N47 520d's are just trouble but the 530d with the M57N 3.0 unit is a cracking thing. Late petrols are N53's with the dreaded injectors but are otherwise fine. 523i's are slow and use as much fuel as a 530i. Pre LCI cars are technically more robust but they're getting on.
F10's are lovely cars but running costs/repairs are potentially £££££. Late E60's are a lot more car for the money and still drive extremely well. Something like a 2008/9 525d or 530d SE is a good smoker.

I feel like my comparison is really unfair as my E60 was a manual 520D and my F10 was an auto 528i but I agree with the general consensus that the F10 was measurably better in pretty much every way aside from;
Steering - I much preferred the steering feel on the E60
Looks - I'm probably on my own here but I much preferred the looks of my E60 in Msport to my similarly equipped F10
As an all rounder the F10 just worked better for us and we ended up keeping it a lot longer than we'd kept the E60 - in fact, the F10 has only left in the past few weeks as I simply don't drive enough to justify keeping it on the drive anymore.

I'm in a similar boat, but looking at touring models. I am surprised at how cheap a F11 is available for!
I really like the E61's looks with the M Sport. For my budget I'd rather go with a later E61 with a good set of optional extras. (Hoping most niggles would be sorted too)
The F1X series should feel the better car as it's newer... A lot will depend on what you prefer of course.
Best option is to go for a test drive in them, have a sit in them. See which one you prefer. You might be happy with a E6X series for the money saved over the F1X.
Have you thought about a 7 series too? Bigger car, but lot of car for the money (but again, a downfall as with any car...cost of repair...)
