BMW satnav question
Discussion
Hi folks
Had my 335d for just over a couple of years (Nov 2017 registered) and during lockdown it has hardly moved (filled it up in March, still got 1/4 tank), I therefore let my BMW connected subscription lapse and havent renewed yet.
At the weekend I was going to somewhere new and tried to enter postcode in satnav but it doesn’t recognise any postcodes. The map works, and it knows previous locations or postcodes but nothing new.
Is the satnav map / postcode look up linked to the subscription on connected drive ?
Not sure what’s going on. Any ideas before I take it down to the dealer ?
Thx

I thought we had 3 years of free map updates.
Try going here:

and seeing if you can download the latest maps onto a USB stick.

If you do not have Carplay with Waze, it is possible to retrofit it to BMWs using all original equipment. I have done this on my Porsche as the OEM Nav is crap and the traffic data costs money where I live.
Wireless carplay for BMW
I am not affiliated with the product but am a fan. I installed the Porsche version myself. Take a look at the video to see if you are comfortable doing it in your car. All original functionality is maintained. In my car I press Nav once for Porsche and twice for carplay

That’s one answer
OP... Are you saying you’ve lost postcode search all together ? For example, a street built 25 years ago, if I gave you that postcode, you can no longer find it ?
Exactly. No matter what postcode I enter, it cannot find the destination. But maps works and show me where I am....and if I select a previous destination it finds it....and I can select a destination on the map directly.

Postcode functionality not linked to subscription -Could be battery related if car has been layed up for a while so maybe consider battery disconnection for an hour and then reset which might clear it.
That could be it. The car was layed up for nearly 9 weeks and wasn’t used. When I came to use it, Battery warning said I needed to take it for a drive which I did. Maybe needs a reset. Will check manual.Steve Campbell said:
Update as the car had to go in for a recall item. Quick Search uses internet, and as I let it lapse it isn’t working. Full search is “in car” so works as does voice commands which uses full search.
Hi SteveI have exact same problem since last week. I am not sure what you mean above. How can I enter and search using postcode is I can't use quick search?
Did anyone figure this out. I have the same problem since letting the subscription lapse. Car driven regularly so not a battery issue.
Has to be related to the subscription as it started just as this lapsed. Can’t see why it would do this. The maps are there so why wouldn’t it find the postcodes…. ??

Sorry to bump a slightly old thread but having this issue too... car has been used daily and as others have stated the Connected Drive has recently lapsed - we may be getting a new car soon so have left it for now although the lack of live traffic has been a bit of a pain. Is there a way to get postcode search back or am I knackered without the subscription?
I can confirm, for anyone who is interested still, that the 'Post Code' search feature is BMW Connected Drive subscription based. You can pay for this individual feature for £30+/- a year, or for the more encompassing package of £90 that was mentioned above.
Needless to say, BMW didn't know what to say when I asked them if they are next going to turn off my A/C and ask for a yearly subscription for that too...

The slow rate of updates, lack of custom POIs, and no ability to plot a route (especially since BMW closed their BMW Routes service a couple of years ago), are a few of reasons I keep my old TomTom around - even though I've got a very nice 10" screen built in.
Pity the latest TomTom devices are removing useful features like custom POIs and adding 'useless' features like facebook/twitter integration
Looks like I'll have to stick to Tyre and manually transfer the routes over.
