Hello All, my 3 series M sport has developed a clinking very tinny sound when I have to almost full lock when turning left, drive round French roundabouts and sometimes on bumpy roads. Have jacked it up but can’t see anything and no evidence of play from the wheel. Any ideas ?

The tyre is showing signs of excessive wear on the outside.

Stone trapped between brake disc & backing plate

Backing plate loose & rattling

Heat shield loose & rattling

Prob best to get it on a ramp & use a peacemaker to ‘rattle’ things wink

Hi, back in old fashioned days of my Mk2 cavalier Sri (30 years ago), that would have been the CV joint, or it was on my car, do those still go?? mine used to knock when on full lock. Just a thought

I should add that she (yes it’s a she) is driving like an old truck. Fighting the wheel on fast roads but at times it feels like if I turn the wheel I’ll drive straight off the road. Partner is not comfortable at all in the passenger seat when I’m over taking lorries...wandering like a lost sheep

That last bit sounds like the effect of run-flat tyres (in my case it was a set of Continentals). Dan's list covers the possible causes of the rattle.

Locknut, thx. I recently put a new pair of Bridgestones on the front. I replaced RE 50 and now have S001. Better grip, less noise but crap driving experience.
