Love my car. One week in and it’s amazing. There are two things I’ve got the car booked in to be checked : one is a whirring noise that coincides with engine revs which I’ve narrowed down to the air conditioning, so hopefully that will be fairly simple. The second is a creaking from the rear of the car. It’s often just as you start to accelerate or turn (possibly only when I turn left). As you accelerate and the balance moves to the rear of the car there’s a kind of creak from the rear. No idea what it - possibly suspension?

Anyone had anything similar?

The "creaking" is likely some sort of bushing - not uncommon for any car, so should be easy to formally diagnose and repair. Afterwards it's important to get a wheel alignment completed.

With the whirring noise, does it dissapear when the air conditioning is "off"? BMW's generally make a strange "whirring" noise when the air conditioning is on, I think it's to do with how the pump works. It should be audible but not too loud though. Again, it should be an easy one to diagnose if it's a normal noise, or abnormal. It'l be worth having the rest of the auxiliary system checked in case it's an idler pulley or something as well.

All in all, seemingly easy fixes!

Does your car have the sunroof? Could it be a creak coming from there but sounding like the rear?

Hi. Yes it does have the sunroof but even sitting in the back it sounds like the creak is coming from the rear so I don’t think it’s the sunroof

I had this after polishing my bmw. Turns out the 2010s cars have door seals particularly prone to making noises when in contact with any polish.
My advice: Clean all the door seal rubbers with soapy water.
If I am wrong, it’s only cost you 5p.

Quite possible that your whirring noise is the top belt tensioner , its a easy change but requires lots of dismantling to get to it .

The whirring is likely to be the AC gas, get it regassed if it goes down then chances are the condensor is the problem child they had a QE across the 5,6 and 7 for them...they regularly fail on the ends around the pipe joins.

creak could be a broken spring, or a bush
