E46 sports exhaust w/vac operated butterfly

Hi all,
I know there are a few e46 owners still on here - my 330 Touring Sport is making a racket on the motorway, really boomy. It’s not blowing and seems in reasonable nick but the vac operated valve is not working properly.
Had a look under it today and there are 2 problems - firstly the vacuum hose just crumbled to dust. Not an issue as I have some silicone hose somewhere in the garage (although I’m not going to route it through the tiny hole into the boot, I’ll just find something to join them. Secondly, the actuator has become detached from the cam that operates the valve - it looks like a circlip or something is missing. I’m guessing it’s a 5mm or so, but it’s impossible to get to because of the bumper. I thought of circlip pliers but access is really tight. Any tips? It is driving my crazy...
