Hi, what's the best option for getting my 2016 F20 Nav updated ? had to use it last night and found myself driving through a field near Tatton park but was fairly sure was on a new piece of road...

It depends what system you have. Some can do it Over the air, and some via a USB flash drive. Lots of USB sticks with activation codes available on the bay of dreams for little money. BMW will also sell you map updates too. There's different versions of maps though, so make sure you get the right one for your car.

I paid £35 from BMW for a year's worth of map updates. First update was done when in for service, I updated it again by downloading from BMW website onto a USB stick.

My preferred way is to buy a lifetime FSC code, then download the maps free every time they are released. Expect to pay £20 for a FSC ("Freischaltcode" = System Release Code).

Map/system versions are:
>CIC SA609
BMW Road Map PREMIUM Europe East (1USB)
BMW Road Map PREMIUM Europe West (1USB)

>CIC-Mid SA606
BMW Road Map Europe East MOTION
BMW Road Map Europe West MOTION
BMW Road Map Europe MOVE

>NBT SA609
BMW Road Map Europe NEXT East
BMW Road Map Europe NEXT West
BMW Road Map North America NEXT
BMW Road Map Europe NEXT

>NBT Evo SA609
BMW Road Map Europe EVO
BMW Road Map Europe EVO
BMW Road Map Europe Way

>EntryNav SA606
BMW Road Map Europe Route East
BMW Road Map Europe Route West

I use GPS Power for downloads.

Sign up to BMW connected drive, once you're logged in put the vin number of your car into the website and it'll tell you what 'booked' services you have and when they expire. Worth looking there first as there may maps included (our 2017 1 series had maps for four years for some reason!). If no luck there, you can see how much it'll cost either for a one off or for lifetime as someone else suggested.

Then you just need a computer and a USB stick with enough storage on it to download the map updates to.

That's the official BMW route covered.

^^ Yeah my late 2016 F45 had usb maps updates included already when I logged on to connected drive, took an hour or two to sort out but it worked OK. I ended up paying for RTTI too as I felt it was worth it.
