Hi all

I have a couple of scratches on the rear bumper on my carbon black BMW and BMW have quoted me £240 to do a smart repair to repaint the side and first quarter of the rear bumper.

A mobile paint specialist has said he can do it for £150. He has good reviews and gives as 12 month guarantee.

So just wondering what to do.

Looking for your advice.

Thanks

I wouldn’t want my car sprayed on my driveway, no matter how good someone is. Spray booth repair job for me!

BMW prices are always more than you need to pay. nothing wrong with mobile repairs, many decent tradesmen make a living out of it, if you are not happy with the out come, don't pay him?? or try a non BMW repair shop and get a quote. i want to a local place with my partners Astra that had a scuffed bumper and mentioned a wheel could do with a refurb.. He doe a first class job on the wheel and a full respray on the bumper, perfect job for £280, BARGAIN!!! that was dent magic in Bristol.

That's not BMW, it's (perhaps) your BMW dealer that will be using a local "smart" repairer.

Maybe the same one that's quoted you £150.00!

320d is all you need

Use neither!

Find a good , trusted independent bodyshop

Will likely do a substantially better job than either BMW or a smart repairer!

IME its a minefield. Anyone can be a smart repairer, so pick one thats been around a good while.

As for bmw approved bodyshops, i have good and bad work done by them. Overspray, lacquer peel, etc.

Years ago i picked up a carbon black 435i, on the very first day of ownership someone scraped in the car park... went and got a mobile smart repair with a similar cost to the one you have been quoted. Guy came out to the house, went to work and did the most horrible piece of work ever... he had to do it twice and even still there was rough overspray everywhere.

In the end i went to proper repair place, but because of the smart repair a typical £300 piece of work for them turned into £800 because the whole bumper needed to be sprayed to make it look right.
