Does anyone use Spotify through the connected drive?

Is it any good and does it work seperate from the phone?

I know older models would just play spotify through the phone, but I don't want this.

My 2019 5 series has the Spotify 'app' in the list of media outputs. I have free spotify which it doesn't seem to recognise, I guess you need premium? And if this is the case, can I use spotify if my phone isn't even connected to the car, to listen to podcasts, new music etc? I don't wanna pay for premium if I find it to be st, a poor interface etc or if I need to run it through the phone rather than an independant stream direct into the car.

I cant seem to find any videos online that show it actually being used.

I use spotify through ‘i drive’ but connected phone via cable/ usb plug.

to use the proper app on ‘connected drive’ i think you need to subscribe/ pay for the privilege. my car (‘14 plate 5 series touring) it costs £100 per year to activate the connected drive for certain apps.

so for me i’ll just use the cable and still get the controls through i drive and save some money
