BMW performance brakes on f30 340i, min wheel size?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm going to get some new wheel and some winter tyres for traveling to the Alps. I've got the performance brakes at the moment and 19" wheels, was hoping to get 18" for the winter tyres, but looking at the clearance of the calipers worried it will rub.
Does any one know if 18" will clear the calipers?
Cheers

I have gone down from 19” to 18” on my 335d with msport brakes. For mine, that is the minimum recommended wheel diameter, and better for comfort and speed humps. It looks as if you could go lower, but I imagine there is a needed clearance to avoid stones and grit scraping.
If you look at BMW accessory site, and look at winter wheels, you can put your VIN in and it will show the wheels and sizes. It may be that other styles of wheels at BMW’s recommended minimum may not give adequate clearance, because of the shape that the inside of the spokes make. For that reason, and for preference of the style, I went for BMW type 398 18”

Make sure you click down beyond the model to the ‘performance brake upgrade’ filter.Note, the set of wheel bags seems a bargain price at £34 a set.

Thanks guys, it's suggesting 18" will fit with performance brakes, must be tight fit but as long as it doesn't rub I'm good 🙂Note, the set of wheel bags seems a bargain price at £34 a set.

A few mm clearance is all thats needed

No, it is not a tight fit, I have 18” over msport discs and calipers, what bit of that was not clear? Also clearances need to be more than a few mm If they are to avoid grit/stones being trapped between caliper and wheel.

get off your high horse; it was merely a comment for the OPAnd no; clearance DON'T need to be more than just a few mm; I've run many a track car that's only just had a few mm clearance between the caliper tip & inner barrel of the alloy with ZERO issues and more so when I've stupidly gone into the gravel etc... As long as it clears, it's fine. Yes, more than a few mm is great, but it isn't a MUST
But thanks for teaching me how to suck eggs
