650i - yes or no?

I think difficult to comment without knowing the SH. Has the oil been changed regularly? Has it been looked after? Is the car otherwise in good condition?
I'm looking at an X5 with the same engine.
Just been reading your X5 thread! Good luck, looks nice!I'm looking at an X5 with the same engine.
The SH on what I have been offered is OKish in terms of oil changes. First was at 7k, then 14k, 34k and 53k. So quite long intervals and I understand the N62 likes regular oil changes.
Are you saying that the car has had 4 oil changes in 12 years? Or am I missing something here? I wouldn't be interested if it had had an oil change every 3 years or so.
I ignore the BMW Condition Based Servicing, or whatever it's called. My 2005 650i has had an oil service once a year all its life. I start getting twitchy if I leave it longer than a year, even though it does very few miles.
Had mine for 5 years. Had the valve stem seals done for 4.5k but luckily my old BMW warranty covered that. Your budget for the work suggests you already know that some independents will sort the job for a reasonable amount. Had a leak from the vacuum pump and rocker cover. Few niggles here and there, but it's been suspiciously dependable over the past few years and actually costs me very little. I love mine.
I'd also budget a few hundred quid for a gearbox service if I were you.

You are correct regarding the oil changes. It has only ever had 4 oil changes in its life; 2010, 2012, 2017 and 2020. I ignore the BMW Condition Based Servicing, or whatever it's called. Would you guys leave this car then given the fact that I would get the valve stem seals replaced and the car will have a warranty.
Cheers.

At those intervals I’d be walking away, quickly...Would you guys leave this car then given the fact that I would get the valve stem seals replaced and the car will have a warranty.

As said, they really need to be very regular for these engines...
Considered a couple of 750i E65s before I bought a 730D and the N62 niggles put me off (those and the valve stem seal costs etc)...
Unless you’ve deep pockets, patience and a penchant for a car that will more than likely need a lot of necessary work, I’d keep looking

Noooope. That's very sparse - there must be others out there with a better history of maintenance. This is below the bare minimum. The average works out at 13750 miles between oil changes, but therres a 5 year gap there (2012 - 2017) so how many miles were put on during that time?
I had a 2008 650i years ago. Owned it for about 4 years which is quite long for me. One of the few cars I actually miss. Didn't cost much to run but it was only a year or so old when I got it. Absolute joy to drive, handling was ok considering the size and compared to other cars of the era was pretty luxurious inside.
To change the oil that infrequently on car like that is muppetry of the highest order.
I had a 2005 650 that I ran from 2010 at 47k miles to 2019 at 201k miles. Your bork fund is more than generous. If you go back through my posts, you will see all the non service costs, of which there were very few.
Really reccomend the 650, especially if it has dynamic drive + exclusive leather + HUD.
There is a superb video out there on the design process for the 650, well worth a watch. Mine drove as well the day I sold it as when I first bought it. Never used a drop of oil between services and only had to do the oil stem seals at 160k.

Always check out value line parts from BMW as they are often cheaper than copies.
Make sure you get a good one.

Agree the Pearl leather upgrade is nice, as is the HUD.
One underrated option that is worth keeping an eye out for is the Pro HiFi. It really is very good indeed. Heated seats apart, it's the option I enjoy the most on my E63 on a daily basis.
Oddly enough, the Sports seats with the lumbar support I don't find that comfortable despite quite a bit of fiddling. I have no issues in my wife's E91 with Sport seats (no lumbar support but has side bolster adjustment).

Guys, simple question.
2008 650i with a N62 engine, 55,000 miles. Should I go for it or will I be pouring my hard earned cash down the drain with all the oil leaks.
It will have a warranty on it (not bmw) and I have factored in £1k for valve seals from pmp.
Cheers
