Hi all,

I've just been wondering about this. I have a 330ci Auto, and when you're queuing, in a drive thru or traffic jam, should you keep putting the box back into Neutral or Park, or just sit with your foot on the brake?

On newer BMW's you have the auto hold button, and Merc's have the double brake press, but nothing of the sort here...

What's the best practice?

Whatever you fancy. If your handbrake works I just stick the handbrake on like London cabbies used to. I don't put it in Park unless it's a more than a few minutes I'm sitting still.

Not foot on brake; best way to create pad deposits on your discs etc...

Either into park, or handbrake on (as long as it works properly) or into N and handbrake on etc...

Keep it in drive as the oil is circulated around the box for longer life. Someone else once gave a better explanation than this on here-they understood auto boxes better than me and the reasoning made sense.

Stick it in neutral and handbrake tbh

I'm not convinced by the oil pump argument for a neutral-sitting box.
