We have an i8 owner at our workplace who is insisting that his car needs almost 1m from the kerb due to his doors. I'm calling BS on this but I would appreciate the opinion of other i8 owners. The issue is that he's so offset from the kerb that the three space parking bay is now only available to two cars and as its the only bay with chargers (only 2 admittedly), its where the EV's have to park. He's convinced the building owner to change the bay from 3 to 2 solely because of his doors. Bear in mind that this office block has always had chronic issues with a lack of car parking spaces so the loss of even one is going to be a problem once life gets back to normal.

From what I've found online I can see the i8 has issues when next to other cars but when its parked like this surely not:

Unless the kerb is over a foot high I can’t see how it could cause any issue with an i8 door

Why doesn’t he park with the driver side always away from the kerb? Problem solved.

If he/she takes a passenger then get out before reversing into space.

It would seem the obvious choice biggrin

I don’t know, but the dark Citroen parked next to him is definitely on for the bad parking thread.

Mental.

I *choose* to park driver-side close to kerbs as the doors easily clear them and there is no risk of getting blocked in. The i8 only needs about 18" of clear space to open the door fully, what normally catches them out is the door mirror of the car next to it which still needs to be 18" plus away.

What happens if other people get electric cars and park there first ? How does he get on at Tesco etc ? Lol

Maybe he should have the doors converted to scissor style ?

Ha. That is the building maintenance manager, he's backed up to the fire door to get some things into the building.

Yep, I had a good look at the distance from the road surface to the base of the door and the clearance is pretty much the same as our car!

I did say to the wife that we should get a second EV just so we can take up both spaces smile

If it was a solid wall, I'd agree that an I8 would need some distance, but I8 doors open higher than any normal car door, so kerb clearance is a complete non-issue

Hahahaha! The wife takes her i8 to the shops and parks in normal bays with very little issues. Whether tight up against a kerb or not. Even if it's lowered on aftermarket wheels he shouldn't have a problem with a standard kerb. Barely needs more than a normal door to open fully. He's being a bit precious about it imo ... and tell him that spoiler looks poo, hth

Sorry, but that's a blatant case of the i8 owner thinking that their car is sooo precious, nobody should park next to it, so they're using two spaces!

How does he not bang his ego on the door every time he gets in and out?

Plus, as soon as you open the door it's lifting up and away from the kerb. If anything it's easier in an i8 to clear one. He just doesn't want anyone dinging his car. The wife drives hers like it's a 20-year-old corsa and will park it anywhere. Never had any issues unless you're parked tight against a wall.

Prior to the EV spaces being there, he used to insist on parking in the handicapped spaces as they have extra clearance around them space. Same argument, door clearance.

Laughable! Best way to demonstrate if there is an issue is for him to prove it! Ask him to park as any normal person would in the space and see if the door opens without ripping it off the hinges...

Maybe he is fat. Very fat people do struggle in and out of the high-silled i8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPdGiOVhfYU

This is all the space that’s needed to open an i8 door.

Very selfish

Is he the director of the company?

Think hes worried about attracting dents from other opening their doors on his car
