Diamond Cut Alloys - repairing them
Discussion
Ive got a 7 series F01 and its immaculate apart from the alloys. I dont believe a single one of them has been kerbed yet I have spider webbing across some spokes and bubbling around the centre caps on all 4 wheels. I appreciate they may have suffered stone type chips to allow water to get under the lacquer and cause this but I dont think they need recut as it looks to me like they need the lacquer stripped , cleaned and re-lacquered.
Is this approach sensible and indeed possible or would i be on a fools errand?
I need all 4 done and dont want to spend over £100 per corner on a recut as 1 wheel did get recut about 2 years ago following a very minor blemish and its ended up exactly the same as the other 3 around the centre caps yet has already lost a few mm of material off the rim.
What is the best way to sort this as i understand Diamond Cut wheels can be notorious for this, yet ive had them on Mercs several times and they remained spotless and never gave a problem.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

My other half is using my car since she sold hers and last month managed to curb both near sides. 20" diamond cut. I'm not sure if they needed to be re-cut but we used a local place and they charged £100 per wheel including VAT and they are like new now.
Looks like you're in the North East like me. If you can get to Cramlington, pop along to the alloy wheel specialist on South Nelson Road and ask their advice. They did a good job although you need to either leave the car or the wheels for 2 - 3 days

Thanks toon10 i know the place your on about ( 5 mins from my house) but for reasons i shouldn't get into on a public forum i wont be using them after they did some paint work on my previous car (the paint shop next door is the same firm) Lets just say i was less than impressed with the job and their attitude to my query was woeful and it left me well out of pocket.
I suppose i am really trying to find out if you can get a re-lacquer only and if its worth it as
a) im trying to avoid having them cut (because that removes material from the actual rim)
b) will having them lacquered actually last or will the bubbling & spider web effect just slowly return again?
c) trying to avoid a recut @ £100 per corner as non diamond wheels can have a fill, repair and paint for about £50 per corner

BMW diamond cut alloys really are shocking for corrosion
I’ve had two sets on my X3 replaced under warranty and now the third set are corroding
I think if I was going to have them redone I’d just have them done as normal wheels
I’d certainly think twice about buying a car again with them fitted
